Pets at Home Leighton Buzzard

Really horrible member of staff yesterday refused to sell my little girl a fish. Lady with brown curly hair. When approached she seemed annoyed we had disturbed her. Then went on to ask questions about the tank trying to catch us out. She said “so it’s a new tank” we replied “no about 7 months” she replied “hmmm ok, what’s the temperature” I said “I don’t know but it had a filter and a tropical heater”. She then said “you don’t seem like you know what your doing so I am not selling you any fish” she was horrible and my daughter cried, it was meant to be a present for going up a swimming grade. We have had fish for many years in other tanks. Judging by the state of their tanks and how many fish I see floating on visits to pets at home I don’t think they should be lecturing us.

Went to this place to buy cold water fish. Asked for help, the girl immediately asked me if I have a tank and filter. I said: I do have a tank but I have removed the filter because I prefer to change the water once a month with the proper additives for tap water. She told me straight away I can’t sell the fish unless you are buying a filter. My question is if I wasn’t honest and have said, yes I have a filter running, how would she knows if I was saying the truth. For other side I do take care of my fishes and that’s why I change the water every month for the well-being of my fishes. After trying to explain this to her I just noticed and not being successful with my explanation I noticed the girl was trying to make buying more the filter. I asked to speak with the manager and his attitude was rude when approached to me. I even bother to explain what happened, turned my back and walked away. Ridiculous I think!

Although when I raised my complaint with customer service, they were sympathetic and helpful, I will not be returning to the Leighton Buzzard shop. The staff are surly, rude, arrogant and incompetent and completely lack any sort of product knowledge. You would think that during these times when many people are being made redundant and business are failing, that their staff might take an interest in the well fare of their brand, but each time I have visited, they could barely bring themselves to acknowledge a customer, much less actually help them. And top prices too. We've found a lovely independent store and will be using that in future - they are cheaper, friendlier and actually know what they are selling. Sorry Pets At Home, you've lost around £15000 to £20,000 over the lifespan of our pets. Up your game!

Absolute shambles! Went to buy a hamster, my partner wanted to take it back to Buckingham the assistant manager said she couldn’t allow it because it would be more than 40 minutes when it’s not. I said I’d keep it in Leighton which I was planning on doing as I wanted one she then refused me and said I can’t allow that to happen. Told me she spoke to her manager when it was to quick! Come back the day after and the actual manager approached me tells me he’s been informed and has to refuse the sale even though it’s for me but because I was with my partner the day before I’m not allowed to buy any pets for 24 hours. Said fine and walked out, told me I was more than welcome to go back tomorrow and get them, not wasting my time in this store anymore. It’s absolutely ridiculous. I’m now going to go and take my business somewhere else! I found 3 members of staff extremely rude! But 2 members of staff were really lovely!

Went today just to ask about pet insurance, all I got from a very young lady was I dunno can't ya Google it like everyone else " not happy it would of been nice to speak to a manager but I guess I would have to Google yhat too."

Wonderful. Came here once and let our dog pick a toy.

Picked up a Betta fish today (Mon 7th Aug 23), the staff were superb and a credit to the store. I have travelled to a few stores and this is the best one in terms of customer service, friendliness, very genuine individuals, there was the young lady that served me, the guy with blondish short hair and the guy at the til (long brown hair). They are a credit to the company, thank you very much for today!

Staff very friendly and knowledgeable however, I find most of the items very overpriced. You can find the same products online a lot cheaper.
