Came to the Sitooterie for lunch on a quiet Sunday.Food is decent but definitely overpriced - £14.50 for a simple avocado sourdough is absolutely wild. Everyone enjoyed their plates but the portions were pretty small and the food should have been incredible for what they’re charging.Service was ok - had to go into the bar a couple of times for menus and additional orders because the servers either forgot or just didn’t come back. The location is good. Open structure but with heaters and blankets available. It could be so great and we had a lovely family lunch, but I wasn’t blown away by the service.

I would definitely revisit the Banchory Lodge Hotel. The staff was amazing and super friendly when I checked in even though I had been on a 5mile hike that day and I’m sure I looked just as bad as I felt. The receptionist showed me to my room and made sure everything was perfect. There’s no lift but that is to be expected in the historical hotels but if you ask they will help you get your luggage up to your room. I loved everything about my stay there. The room was extremely clean and comfortable and there were usb ports. The bathroom had a shower and a tub. Everything was immaculately cleaned. The property is lovely and located right off the river. The grounds are just as beautiful as the hotel. They have very safe parking. I had the scallops and steak filet for dinner. All of the waitstaff were friendly and prompt. For breakfast I had the Scottie which was also very good. The egg was poached perfectly. I would highly recommend a visit to this property. Not only is as the room very nice but the lobby and restaurant was beautiful as well.

My friends and I were on a week long golf trip with the final two nights close to Aberdeen staying at the Banchory Lodge. Needless to say, what a special place! The ambiance and setting is outstanding along with the service and upkeep. The food & beverage was a highlight either a'la carte dining or the special banquet we arranged for the group - simply exquisite. The quality of food the chef used was top notch and the service impeccable. Warning, the bartenders really know how to pour some classic cocktails - just the way I like them! Kudo's to Carol and her team for setting such high standards and delighting their guests. Well done and hope to be back again.

We turned up without a booking for dinner and were offered either the outside sitooterie (under canopy) or dining room, we opted for outside and it was divine. It is a tapas style menu and we ordered lots of plates to share, all well received and empty plates returned. The seating was comfortable and there were overhead heaters so we were warm enough. The service was good and the staff were helpful and friendly. We didn't stay this time as we were just passing through but I've stayed in the past and the rooms and breakfast were lovely. Will definitely be back. Great views, right next to the mighty River Dee.

We had a very nice visit recently apart from one manager who was very rude. We decided to give the terrace another go today due to the nice location and good food. A sign directed us to the reception where we were told there is a table free and to walk up to the terrace with a table number. The same rude manager instantly approached us with an attitude and said there's nothing available. A waitress then offered us to start with a table Inside and move outside when available. To which the manager shook his head. Made us feel very unwelcome. Won't be back unfortunately.

**sitooterie**I've changed this from 2 stars to 1Had a reservation, table hadn't been arranged when we arrived. Was a scramble to pull it together for the poor lady that was left to sort it out. Was a large booking so a table for 9 adults, 2 toddlers and a baby - a fair effort was needed to arrange the tables. A previous party ended up giving up their seats for us to sit down (which saved the staff *some* stress). We mostly ordered drinks at the bar as it was the quickest way to be served. There seemed to be plenty staff inside but only 1 waiter at a time serving us outdoors in the sitooterie. The flatbreads, dough balls, pulled pork and strawberry ice cream were all finished so the menu was very limited - perhaps just let people order from the inside menu in these circumstances? In addition, if there are so many unavailable items perhaps it would be good to advise the party prior to them choosing what to eat to avoid disappointment. Our table wasn't cleared of our dishes so we cleared it ourselves and the staff picked it up later. We had to go down and ask for desert menus / coffees because of lack of staff presence in the sitooterie area. The food was very expensive for getting so little actual food.- I've seen comments back from the venue saying these dishes are designed for sharing. This is ridiculous. If they're for sharing... reflect that in the price. Your prices are insane if that's a dish for sharing.I really do feel for the staff at The Banchory Lodge... most of them try their hardest to please and you can tell (especially the lady trying to sort our table when we arrived). But some seem demotivated/lack of training etc and this can only be a management issue. This is the third such experience like this in as many years. It really is a shame considering the location and potential for this venue. I hope someone swoops in to save this place soon.I should mention I dined in the bar a few weeks ago and the food quality, price and service was 100x better. They just can't seem to get the sitooterie right.

We had a great 3 night stay here. The rooms were in very good condition with a newly remodeled bathroom. The view and sound of the river was awesome. The breakfast menu/service was awesome. Whatever you wanted they could fix-up for you. The town was in close proximity to many points of interest. My only suggestion would be to have dehumidifiers and fans in ever room. They don't have air conditioning (none of the non-chain hotels we stay at in Scotland did) so the rooms can get stuffy and a bit warm.

Banchory Lodge used to be our favourite weekend family treat meal out. Sadly although the staff are still very friendly we are just no longer enjoying the experience.Table settings - why have side plates unless you are offering bread to the table? They just take up space and get in the way. At least clear them before/while serving mains to ensure the table is not cluttered up with unused crockery. Better still don’t wastefully cause pointless washing up…not good for the planet and it does add up!And PLEASE clear empty glasses when you bring refill drinks! We shouldn’t have to pounce on serving staff before they vanish to refill trays with empties…it should be an automatic part of service that the customer doesn’t have to think about.Food:The choice is nowhere near as exciting as it used to be, what a loss! We used to feel like we were being served quality local meat and fish cooked with real flavour, skill and imagination. Not any more…A simple brunch menu all day on Sunday from opening until 5pm?! What?!We don’t go out for lunch at 1pm looking for breakfast…I can do eggs, ham and posh bread at home thanks. Serve a proper menu please so we can treat ourself on a Sunday lunch out! There was more choice for the kids than the adults…The only Sunday main that wasn’t breakfast was a roast so both us adults tried the “1/2 roast chicken” for £21 each…Well what turned up per person was a chicken thigh (so 1/4 chicken not 1/2), 3x 1/4 pieces of potato, a spoonful of tasteless skirlie, 1 Yorkshire pudding, 1 parsnip baton and 1 Brussel sprout plus gravy. The Yorkshire pudding had been incinerated and the chicken was dry. Honestly we were so irritated. So on this last occasion we spent £108 for 2 adults and 2 kids to have 2 (disappointing) roasts, 2 kids mains, 1 pudding, 2 hot chocs, 1 coffee, 2 kids juices and 2 cokes.Well that evening we actually used a £150 gift voucher at a local 4* hotel…2x spirits and mixers, red wine, 2 cokes, 2x delicious flavourful starters, 2x mains (both had lamb shank which was to DIE for…piled with tasty veggies and potato dauphinois), 2x puddings which were stunning and tasty works of art…2x coffees and teas after. The comparison of value for money was pretty stark!! And now seeing other recent reviews it seems we’re not alone…”small portions of boring food and nice staff” is a good summary.
