Peak Navigation Courses

First experience of a Map Reading and navigation course. Took my 11-year old daughter with me. What a fantastic day! We learned so much. Totally professional and safe. In the afternoon we were finding ancient burial mounds using OS map and compass. Had loads of fun and would highly recommend.

Just completed the two day silver award with Austin as our leader. Plenty of time was spent making sure everyone understood each process of navigation the course takes you through. It was very detailed in content, we learnt loads of new skills and improved our map reading skills. We are now feeling more confident in how to relate what you see on the land to the map. It was extremely enjoyable, we were in good company and a bonus of good weather. I would strongly recommend Peak Navigation if you are interested in learning how to read a map and navigate. Jane and Michael provided an excellent and very enjoyable course. We learnt a lot and the skills taught will mean we will (hopefully) never get lost again on one of our walks. Bonus is the offer to join one of their regular walks giving another opportunity to try out our navigation skills. Totally recommend them

Really good, lovely people, very accessible and relaxed. We really enjoyed it. Only improvement to 5 stars would be access to a cup of tea for the bits in the village hall!

I would highly recommend this organisation for people starting out navigating and anyone wanting to take their skills further. I took part in the 2 day Silver Navigation Course with Austin as our instructor and Linda joining us on the second day. I had some experience map reading but felt I needed to improve after a couple of scary experiences on a foggy Bleaklow. Austin was a brilliant teacher, really informative (in more than just map reading), very patient, understanding, and really approachable. I am amazed at how much we all learnt in just two days and how easy it now is to put into practice. We all started at different levels and finished as equals. The locations used are perfect for learning and away from the more popular routes so no interruptions. We all had a lot of fun, Austin really made the whole experience relaxed so never felt under pressure making learning all the more easier. Linda on the second day was lovely and has an amazing knowledge of plants. I can't wait to use my new found confidence to go off piste in the open access land instead off just following the guidebook. I'm even looking forward to just sitting at home planning a walk and taking in every single detail of the map, its opened a whole new world to me. This is so much better than trying to learn from a book or off YouTube, it was a wonderful experience that's most likely changed my life for the better. Do not hesitate to book with these guys!

Linda was an excellent leader with a wealth of knowledge. She delivered the course in a fun and friendly way, taking time to make sure everyone understood before moving on. I can’t wait to put my new skills in to practice.

Linda was an excellent teacher. The course is perfect for beginners and there is repeated re-enforcements of take home messages through the day. The pre-course videos were very helpful as well. Would thoroughly recommend.

What a great weekend doing the Silver National Navigation award. I learnt so much and Linda was a patient and competent instructor. She really brought the group together which really added to the experience.I had never used a map or compass but now feel able to plan and carry out a great hike and I can’t wait to get out and use my new skills.I can definitely recommend Peak Navigation Courses.

I completed Navigation for Beginners Course today.What an inspiring day. Taught in a personal way at the level of the participants. I learnt so much and it has given me the confidence to move out on my own knowing I have the skills to correct any misplacement.Mike and Jane are passionate about imparting their great knowledge in a fun engaging way. I recommend coming and seeing for yourself. You can't go in the wrong direction
