The hotel is lovely and the rooms are clean and comfy, but could do with a bit of a spruce up as they look slightly dated and scuffed. And the sink plug in room 6 was just gross looking. Black out blinds/curtains would be a good idea as well as the curtains were useless at keeping any light out, which meant a very early wake up as soon as it got light. The lock on the doors needs sorting as it was so awkward to lock, and took a few attempts each time we left the room. The staff were nice and friendly, and the location was great. The only disappointment for me was the food. I ordered the vegetarian pie in the evening and whilst the pie was nice it just really doesn't go with the chips, peas and gravy, as the pie has a curry/cumin taste that in no way works with the gravy. But the worst was the vegetarian breakfast, first morning no vegetarian sausages and the mushrooms we're the greasiest things I've ever tasted, it was like they had been deep fat fried. Second morning (today) I was told that there was now vegetarian sausages available, so I ordered them, only to be very disappointed by the vegetable fingers that were served to me..... In no way whatsoever could they ever be described as sausages! Needless to say, I did not eat them. I think the chef needs to learn more about vegetarian food. While I would consider staying here again, I certainly wouldn't want to eat here again, which is a shame as I was hoping to love the place, but it turned out to be a very mixed bag.

Sadly I was very disappointed. Our stay was part of a Charming Escapes gift voucher, given as a Christmas gift. We also booked an additional night at a cost of £140 as our break was part of a birthday celebration. Unfortunately, our room did not live up to our expectation. The room was tired, dated and in need of a bit of tlc. The mattress sagged to form a W but to be fair when reported the following morning despite being told Oh. we put a new mattress in there last week" the mattress was changed

Stayed here over the summer. Overall we were disappointed as rooms could do with some t l c.Food was disappointing, particularly breakfast, a loaf of uncovered sliced bread to toast yourself no fruit or yoghurt and only a choice of museli or one other cereal.Staff were friendly and helpful although as we met several of them working in other cafes and bars, probably not very happy.

Pub Food Review (didn't stay at the hotel)I visited this pub recently to try their fish, chips, and mushy peas. Let me give you the lowdown: the fish was definitely the highlight. It was cooked perfectly – crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. The chef really knew what they were doing with that fish. Now, the chips were a bit of a letdown. I was hoping for that classic crunch you get with fish and chips, but these were a tad underwhelming. They could've used a bit more time in the fryer to get that crispiness just right. Not a deal-breaker, but it would've made a difference. As for the mushy peas, well, they missed the mark. I prefer them to be creamy and slightly thick, but these were more like a runny sauce. The peas didn't hold their shape, and it kind of took away from the overall experience. The pub itself had a nice, cozy feel, and the service was friendly. When you're looking for a solid plate of fish and chips, you expect them to nail it. This place has potential, though. With some improvements on the chip front and fixing up those mushy peas, it could easily become a reliable spot for some classic British comfort food. But for now, it's just an okay choice if you're craving that pub grub fix.

A one night stay. Comfortable room, food was good and staff excellent. Shower was a little tight fit but this is an older building! Overall, very pleasant.

It is located in the beautiful countryside in a lovely little village. The room was really nice and modern even if it was suitable for dogs. (You couldn't tell at all) Breakfast and dinner was good. Breakfast was included and we paid for dinner which was a little expensive but very good. I would definitely stay again

Stayed here 4 times now and rooms are always very clean , considering they re dog friendly . Staff not very organised though and always seemed to be rushing about .Food is very good !Ideal place for exploring the countryside with lots of walks to do literally on the doorstep .

- On check-in, we were charged more than the agree rate, although this was refunded the same evening when I complained.- the choice of breakfast cereals etc was very limited, with just corn flakes and muesli to choose from, whereas even from a basic b & b we'd have expected more cereals with yoghurt / fresh fruit as well. The Derbyshire cooked breakfast was OK but nothing special, with overcooked bacon and eggs.- we dined in on Tuesday evening , and had to wait over an hour after ordering for a simple pie and chips to be served. The group of cyclists on the next table also waited over an hour. When I complained at the time I was told that it was due to staff shortages. Had we been warned about the likely delay, we could have gone elsewhere.- on Wednesday, after 3 nights, we left the Room Service notice on our door, but when we returned from our walk in the evening, nothing had been done so we had to go to Reception to complain and to fetch clean towels, clean coffee cups, and fresh supplies of tea and coffee.- on Thursday morning we again left the Room Service tag on the door. Although somebody had been in the room and emptied the bins, nothing else had been done. We would have expected the bed to be made, the floors swept, the shower and basin to be cleaned, and clean tea / coffee cups. None of this had been done.Reception wasn’t open when we left so I couldn’t make a formal complaint in person. My Emailed Formal Complaint was made 2 weeks ago but I haven’t had a response.

A very bad experience, never again. NOT FOR DISABLED!!! NO handrails in shower. Put in a cold back room to eat our meals, told fully booked, as we had no table allocated in bar. Treated as second class citizens. A very disappointing experience for my wife's birthday, never again!! Alan and Marie Hanson-Brown

I had booked to meet up with friends on a Groupon deal. Two nights for £170 BnB + one dinner. My friend greeted me and said ' mmmm hope you are ok with it. Take a look its not great!'. She was right. This is a rustic pub and to call it a hotel is really misleading. There is no lounge for residents, no separation from the public at all. This is not a problem but needs declaring. Breakfasts are brilliant. The Full Monty to scrambled or poached eggs whatever you choose. Dinner is a varied affair. Soups are delicious, my husband enjoyed chicken wings, mains are mixed. We saw residents enjoying courses we did not choose. My friend enjoyed the curry a very big portion, my husband and I opted for the fish cakes what a disappointment. Full of mash couldn't taste fish at all. Obviously bought in! No problem but buy the best and charge the price. Our rooms were VERY SMALL. Clean lovely bedding, comfy mattresses. Thank goodness. The bathroom was a good size with an over bath shower, butno rubber slip mat, no hand holds. We are 70+and felt at risk. The radiator could not be turned on in our bathroom. The staff were welcoming and engaging. Always ready to chat. Service was good. Overall a three star is spot on but dont see this as a hotel.
