Chef Matei Baran - Professional Chef

Tasty different street food. Loved the addition of the Bombay mix. Well thought out. Amazing chicken tikka kebab and tandoori chicken kebab. A different flavour in every mouthful. THANK YOU.Stumbled upon this hidden gem when out walking along Seaburn seafront. Chef came and handed us a leaflet, so we thought we’d pop back. So glad we did. Situated next to Stack.Please go try it.

Where do I start? Absolutely disgusting service from day one. I’ll start with the worst of all… calling to cancel the event an hour and half before he was due to arrive. We booked chef Matei Baran as a surprise for my dads 60th. He is probably chefs number 1 fan. The reason was COVID related… absolutely fine but why leave this an hour and half before he was due to arrive? Why not call first thing that morning so we could arrange something else. Instead he left us with the middle of nowhere with no food, or plans. He single handedly ruined my dads surprise birthday present. He offered us his “right hand man” but after waiting 30 minutes after the initial cancel, we had received no contact despite being assured he would call us. In any event, we paid for and booked a master chef finalist. We booked through pop top and only ever received contact from chef when I contacted him. Reactive and never proactive. Every time I was greeted with rudeness and made to feel bad for contacting him. I had never booked this type of event before, when I paid my deposit and after a week of no emails/ acknowledgment I called chef matei to ask what was going on. After the phone call I received an email confirming my booking. I received no instructions as to what happened next which left me nervous. A few weeks before the event I started to become anxious that I’d not heard anything so I sent an email just checking what happens next. My sister in law has a severe nut allergy so I really wanted to reiterate this and gave time to discuss menu option. I chased twice but received no reply. I made contact with poptop to see what was going on and they too advised that they didn’t receive a response from chef matei. After expressing my worry that I just wanted to know what was going in (I wanted this to be perfect for my dad and family) chef matei finally got in touch. He was rude on the phone and when I asked him to confirm what happens next he told me that his child was crying and he needed to go… he said he would call back, he didn’t. I sent a text and then I finally received a call to advise on next steps. Had I have received instructions on next steps or a courtesy email confirming what to expect, I wouldn’t have needed to chase. I am disappointed that chef matei treats his customers and fans this way. It’s a shame as he has some fantastic reviews but this man should be avoided. I put my dads surprise birthday in his hands and he single handedly ruined this. I work in customer service and I would never treat my clients the way he has, you should be very ashamed chef matei. Very ashamed indeed. Also if you are going to cancel an event claiming it’s COVID related, don’t post pictures on your new posh food Instagram page. Avoid like the plague. He is a disgrace to masterchef.

We had the most wonderful meal for our 60th birthday I couldn’t fault it. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and everything was cleared away and washed up without any fuss at all. It was a very enjoyable memorable experience. I would recommend it completely. Excellent job Matei’s team

Posh Street Food was delicious. All of our wedding guests were impressed and very full. The staff were very professional and took time to chat to myself and our guests. The buffet choice was well worth the money and all leftovers were kept in the serving containers so as to keep them fresh.My only concern was timing. The caterers were late by over half an hour. We had to leave our house unlocked so they could access the kitchen and marquee. I was late to the Register Office as a result, which caused a few anxieties.Apart from that one thing, I would definitely recommend poshstreetfood.

Matei’s team came to our house to provide a 5 course meal for 7 of us. We could not fault any aspect of anything they did. Fabulous food, no drama, great service, and the kitchen left imacculate ( probably cleaner than they found it). Great value for money also. Will definitely use again. Thank you very much for a wonderful evening.

I can’t recommend Matei enough! A very hard working and passionate chef, that creates beautifully balanced meals with memorable flavours. The private dining experience is top tier and we’ve just pre-booked some of his PoshStreetfood, which we are very much looking forward to!

Really special evening for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. Matei prepared an amazing tasting menu while we celebrated. Great hosting and organisation from Natalie - and the food was sensational. Highly recommended!

Matei and his team catered our wedding at a location in Northumberland after several covid related delays. His flexibility in the face of the pandemic was much appreciated and the five course tasting menu he put together was fantastic.Our guests had nothing but praise for the food. The experience truly made our day perfect.

Another night of fantastic food at The Rose and Crown Bellingham yesterday. Cannot wait until the next visit. If you miss him, you really miss out.
