Carl and his team recently designed and installed a built-in bench with storage for our dining area. It has totally transformed the room. We particularly appreciate the attention to detail and great customer service. We highly recommend Sevenoaks Joinery!

It is rare that I write such reviews, but we could not in all consciousness recommend Carl. Here's our experience:Design/Consultant process: The initial drawings were (in places) not what we wanted. We spotted some mistakes (wrong number of shelves from what we’d discussed). Carl said we were making too many amendments, but we explained they were errors not changes to design.Installation: We realised that built-in bookshelf still had wrong number of shelves. He tried to fob us off saying it was already built. We had it in writing that there were to be 6 shelves, not 5. He agreed upon seeing evidence but said it would be now be delayed a few days as he needed to amend it at his workshop. OK! Soon we noticed issues with the other bookshelves. They were not evenly spaced! The same book would fit on one shelf, but be too big for another?! He said he would address these issues the following day. He did not. Finally the large bookshelf unit arrived with correct number of shelves, YAY! But once installed there was a 7cm gap between the end of the unit and the wall. NOT YAY. We honestly couldn’t believe it. The gap was big enough to be noticeable, but too small to be put to any use. We also noticed other issues (some handleless drawers with little space to open them, wardrobe handles uneven, wardrobe door scraping floor). As he was finishing up, we asked to speak to him so as to point out all of these issues. We ran through as many as we could. He agreed that both bookshelves had errors & admitted he’d “dropped the ball”. He explained the reason for the issues, but didn’t offer any resolution and just left.Aftercare: Carl sent the final invoice of £400+VAT. We had paid all previous invoices in full & on time, but with this one we were reluctant to pay it until we had a clear course of action. We emailed next day a list of issues that had yet to be resolved & asked that he outline how he was going to address the mistakes. His written response took little responsibility for these mistakes - Although he did say he would be happy return to fix the uneven shelves (we’ve not heard anything since). He claimed to be “very confused” by our email, given we had been “so positive” during our final run-through (we gave plenty of positive feedback too, only fair). However, he wrote that he would void the final invoice of £400+VAT. He then told us that actually, the final invoice should have been £955! The extra £555 is for the ‘extra’ shelves and drawers. He didn’t elaborate, but we assume he means the extra materials he needed to fix his own mistakes. As per his offer to wave it, we didn't pay. Now, one month after install, one of the LED lights in the wardrobe has already broken. Carl has told us that we’ve now forfeited our maintenance warranty as we've refused to pay our final bill of £955. It's egregious on two fronts; first, the bill was £400+VAT (NOT £955), secondly it was waved by himself in writing. We’re shocked and appalled at this lack of respect, unprofessionalism and aftercare. We’re currently in the process of seeking legal advice on this ‘voided’ warranty.Final Thoughts: We found Carl to be unreliable and dishonest. His craftsmanship is great in places, but we found his attention to detail poor. You're on his rushed timeline, not your own, which is where mistakes are made. He’s a big picture guy but doesn’t think of how the units will actually function in real life/every day - only how nice they will look on Instagram. However it was the unprofessionalism that ended up being the worst thing. He downplayed and deflected from his mistakes.If you’re planning to hire him we suggest that you don’t let him rush you. Triple-check details; don’t assume he has. Take about 70% of what he says with a hefty pinch of salt. Document every mistake & hold him accountable, as he will not do this himself. Establish what might ‘void’ the maintenance warranty.I’m sure Carl will come back with a rebuttal, but I have been fully transparent here. Meanwhile, Carl has blocked me on Instagram.

The project from start to finish was handled superbly!Carl took time to understand what we wanted ensuring that the team that built, installed and painted everything, knew exactly what they were doing.Throughout the project he kept me updated with recommendations, decisions and steps.He worked smoothly with expert attention to detail. We have just had two units fitted into our living room and can only say how amazing they look. Carl and his team have done a fantastic job and the units look even better than we had hoped for. We highly recommend Sevenoaks Joinery to anyone looking for specialist, purpose built units. The service leading up to the fitting was great too, very informative with lots of suggestions and regular updates prior to setting the date for installation. Definitely worth five stars.

We have been very happy with the design, craftsmanship and value of Sevenoaks Joinery. Carl and his team first built a media wall for our family room a couple years ago and recently when we decided to redo our boot room Carl was the first and only call we made. He and his team listen closely to what you want to achieve and use their experience and expertise to bring in ideas you couldn’t have imagined. And on the install, the guys were super friendly and no detail was too small. They added rubber nibs, for instance, so a bench seat wouldn’t scratch the wall when opened. And while there Carl was able to help us sort an unrelated issue on a kitchen door that had been bothering us for months! Just all around good team, passionate about doing good work. Definitely highly recommend.
