Loved our visit to Max Gate. Steeped in history and really well laid out attraction. Super friendly staff and great audio tour equipment.

It's not really a castle, but it's still worth a visit. Lots of historical information around the premises, useful headsets which provide good information about the castle. Gorgeous viewa and location. Worth a visit

On vacation in Dorset, so had the opportunity to visit Portland castle. Easy to find and has a reasonably sized car park. Parking is free for English Heritage members other wise it is £3. Although it looked as though the parking meter was not working. Fortunately we are English Heritage members, so entry was free to the castle also. Not the biggest place, it is mostly a fort constructed under orders of Henry VIII. Still worth a visit for historical purposes and I’m obsessed with the Tudor period. Various levels and rooms to explore with information boards (audio guides are available). Lovely gardens to look around. Spectacular views too. There is a gift shop and small cafe. Dog friendly too, must be kept on a lead whilst in the grounds and I believe they are allowed into the first section of the cafe. Staff were friendly and helpful. It is definitely worth popping in for a visit.

Fascinating example of a fortified gun castle designed and built specifically to defend against invasion. Its use through time has varied, but almost always has been for strategic military purposes.Different from many other castles I've visited and worth a popping in if visiting Chesil Beach just five minutes away.

.....what can I say... even the teenagers enjoyed this place!Interactive and brilliant for those with hearing difficulties those who are blind as they provide audio devices.Only downfall is the cafe ...avoid at all costs unless your super rich.... £6 for a scone.... your money will be scone in no time at all if your part of a large group.

We came to visit and had a fantastic time on the 30th of October - gorgeous crisp autumnal day and a spooky tour included with a lovely guide and some fantastic knowledge and stories, very enjoyable!A small pay & display car park is within a minute of walking if the castle, but we visited as part of our English Heritage membership, so parking and entry were free.

A great little gun fort, with plenty of rooms to explore. Cared for and ran by English Heritage. Plenty of information boards dotted around, would recommend taking the audio guides that you can scan at different locations. It has a small souvenir shop and cafe with friendly staff. Spent about 1.30 minutes here. Also, it does have a small car park, free for members.

Portland castle is brilliant. There is an excellent audio system to take around with you and plenty of interaction for children. Once your done get a cup of tea from the tea rooms.

What's not to love about a Henry the V111 building...if your mobility is a bit like mine slow, this is a good place to roam. Stairs aren't too bad. A very informative place. Scones are delicious too....❤️
