Golden Palace Fish & Chip Chinese Takeaway

Lovely chicken wings in OK sauce 5/5 - lots of chicken in the curry but just let down by the curry sauce almost as runny as soup and a little lacking in taste: but will use again trying something different as they have so many great reviews off a lot of happy customers.

Used this place for about 15 years I reckon. Always reliable, always tasty and always consistent. There maybe better quality Chinese restaurants out there but you can't go wrong here. No complaints and never have

Busy and popular chinese takeaway. I had chicken chow mein and it was delicious. Despite being busy, food was ready in ten minutes. Generous portions and competitively priced in line with similar food takeaways in the area. Efficient and friendly service too.

Best Chinese takeaway I’ve ever found. The special fried rice is to die for. The worst bit is now all other Chinese takeaways are ruined for me because I can’t find another one as good as this. Will always be my first choice whenever I’m in Southport.

I absolutely love this chippy, the staff are friendly. The chips for starters are just right, chips from other chippy's in the area are like balsa wood, way over done, or leave a strange aftertaste in your mouth. I'd definitely recommend the Golden Palace.

As ever glorious food and so hot for so long the special fried rice is supreme

Ordered set meal A. All food lovely, however it was totally ruined by ‘egg fried rice’ that tasted and smelt of cigarette smoke. Absolutely disgusting and left us both feeling sick.

Great chip shop. Friendly family business. Good variety, and cheaper than others in the area.Would recommend.Great chinese meals and large fish.My only reservation - chips are sometimes pre-fried....

This chippy isn't near me but a couple of miles away near where my son lives, they do the chips exactly how chips should be, food is very nice, friendly owners. Can't fault them. Prices are typical prices.

Sorry I really wanted to support this place as it's only small and out of the way so didn't think it got much business.I was on the way to another chippy that's excellent although a little on the high price scale. So I decided to try the golden palace.I ordered fish chips and curry sauce. To be honest I wasn't impressed that the curry sauce was priced at £1.10 I mean every other chippy is £1 and even that's expensive considering it's powder mixed with water and probably costs less than 5p a portion. I am not really complaining about 10p but was really surprised this chippy would be charging more than the busy popular chippys and to be honest it puts me off coming here again thinking they are trying to make every penny out of me.I noticed they part fry the chips and then fry them again when needed. The part fried chips looked really nice but when I got my chips after being fried the 2nd time they were awful soggy full of fat and dark coloured. Frying chips and then letting them cool down causes the chips to soak up fat and I suspect the oil they were fried in could do with being changed hence the dark brown colour. I also didn't hear the burners on in the fryer range so don't think the oil was hot enough. I really wouldnt have thought this chippy needed to part fry chips as it doesn't appear that busy and I am sure customers would wait an extra few minutes for fresh chips fried once so they are slightly crispy on the outside and not soaked in oil and a nice golden colour.The same goes for the fish. Although only lightly battered it came out very oily with big chunks of fried batter around the fish that just poured with oil and was also dark brown. I don't believe the fish was over cooked I believe it was cooked in oil that wasn't hot enough and was old oil hence the dark batter and it being so oily.Finally the fish was dreadful. I never though I would find cod being tough!! but it was!It was almost the texture of chicken. Usually cod just flakes and melts in the mouth but not this. To be fair it didn't taste off but honestly it's the worst fish I have had from a chippy. I am actually wondering if this chippy is one that's not actually using cod as it just says fish on the menu so it could be pollock which might explain the texture.I am really sorry for this dreadful review but it's the truth and I was so disappointed.I really wanted this place to be good so I would support it more and maybe in the future will try it again to see if they have improved. I have no idea what the Chinese meals are like and might give them a try.Hopefully they will change the way they do things cook fresh to order and change oil more frequently. It's not good when potential new customers come in and find it dreadful.Once again so sorry for this review and if this place improves I will remove and replace it
