We spent an overnight here in a freezing cold room in October, because the heating was not on. The hotel generally needs an overhaul. The decor does not do the building justice and the function room, in which we attended an occasion, was barnlike. Overall, the general ethos and atmosphere in the hotel seemed cold.

Perfect location, every member of staff that we had contact with was really friendly, helpful and seem to enjoy their jobs. Parking such a bonus. The building is so interesting. Tiny criticism shower did not get very hot but weather was warm so not a major issue. Breakfast was excellent and evening meals are available and very good. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here (3days) and will certainly stay again as there is so much to see in Portsmouth.

Six of us stayed at the hotel for two nights. Superb location. Real sense of (naval) history in how the hotel is presented. The rooms are basic but good value for money and the service was exceptional. A particular shout out for Rebecca who was at the entrance to the breakfast room checking people in and showing them to their tables. She was extremely friendly and courteous to everyone she interacted with.

Ex services club, so has a functional feel. Staff helpful and efficient. Rooms recently redecorated so in good nick. Good bed and decent shower in well sized bathroom. Parking on site limited but can use resident bays on nearby road with scratch card voucher from reception. Good breakfast.

Lovely warm welcome. Nice to see a hotel with character, and great location to some historical landmarks. We were on 2nd floor, so understand window opening restrictions. It would have been 5* had the rooms been cooler, and it was relatively cool for August. If this place introduced air con I'd be back.

I stay here every year for it's location and amenities, but I'm afraid that this year I really noticed how tired the room was and as a consequence how tired I was. The mattress was awful and at the very least the room needed a long overdue touch ip at the very least. On the plus side though, the staff were lovely, the breakfast filling and the pool wonderful.I shall be back again next year, but hopefully see a few improvements for my hard earned cash.Well done to the cooks and waiting staff.

Travelled down from Manchester for an Awards night in the Royal Maritime Hotel and booked a budget roomReception staff were welcoming and attentive, and answered any questions we had about their facilities and local area. Our room was basic, which is what you expect for a budget room - but it had everything we needed.Tea, Coffee etc provided in the room, as was a hairdryer. The room was clean and smelt fresh, and the en suite bathroom was immaculate.Breakfast was included in the price, with a choice of cereals, full English or Continental. There is limited parking outside, and I was lucky enough to grab a parking spot. There is parking along the side road next to the Hotel, or a 24 hour Car Park across the road - see Reception for discount on the parking fee.All in all, an enjoyable stay and will definitely stay there should I be in the area again.

This hotel is possibly the most impressive hotel i have stayed in for a long time. The sheer size and decor of the communal areas including reception and seating area is truly breathtaking. At first i got lost to my room, as these hotel has multiple corridors leading in all directions as well as an East and west wing, however once i found my way it was easy. There are many amenities to this hotel, including a small spa-like pool, bar and separate dining room/ restraint. And, breakfast in included.Although, not in the city centre. This hotel is in a central location. As the Royal Dockyards, Bus interchange and Gunworf Queys shopping centre and all withing 5 mins walk. There is also some nice traditional pubs and restraints near by.I would defiantly come again, and would highly recommend this hotel to people.

Brilliant location, very attentive staff, the room was clean the decor was a bit dated in the room we stopped in the west wing. Very good breakfast. The pool is small but very warm and a nice addition to our stay. We would definitely stop here again.
