Royal Golf Hotel Dornoch

Lovely hotel great views from room comfy bed lots of hot water . Views over the course at breakfast . Staff were great couldn't do enough for me. Great breakfast would definitely stay again

We have been for dinner and afternoon tea. Absolutely amazing fidd and service.

I’m disappointed with this hotel. Firstly, we were on the third floor, but there isn’t an elevator. With several bags, it’s quite arduous carrying them up three flights of stairs. Secondly, although the room was spacious, it wasn’t very clean, the furniture is damaged and worn, and there is black mold in the shower. The view and location are excellent (hence the two stars), but I won’t return.

Angela at the front desk went above and beyond, and then some for us. We had an incident about a mile out of town and she helped us through the situation before we even checked in. The hotel itself was lovely and the proximity to Royal Dornoch makes this the place to stay while you’re in town!

Our 'upgraded' room on the ground floor had bird debris on the windows, (easy enough to clean off, if anyone had checked before our arrival), was baltic, and had a definite smell of drains. We had to trot down to reception to point out the lack of loo rolls and rather than sending staff to restock with an apology, were unceremoniously given an open plastic packet containing two. Another visit to reception to enquire about the heating which was resolutely off (set by the manager"). The receptionist lent us her little heater

It's a pleasant hotel, tastefully redecorated, and both the lunch and Sunday lunch have always been very good. The discount for locals is particularly welcome, and an attractive feature of the restaurant. The staff in the restaurant are unfailing polite too, I can't fault them.The downside is the unpredictability of the restaurant being open, and an apparent need to always book in advance - I can't count the number of times I've been turned away if not booked in. Not too much of an issue if you're a member of Royal Dornoch Golf Club and can therefore go there for lunch (a 10 second walk away) but most people aren't, it's also not really the point. The Royal Golf Hotel also seem not to do lunch on Thursdays or Fridays - another problem. I'm aware that the industry faces staffing problems, but frequently I've been told that even coffee is not possible. This has ALWAYS been attributed to staff shortages. Does it take a full kitchen to make a cappuccino?I feel the hotel has plenty of potential, but were it not for the fact that the food is pretty good - I would probably go elsewhere in Dornoch for all of the reasons above.

Fantastic hotel and setting. So dog friendly there were treats and a towel in the room and a sausage for breakfast. Superb human food too

We're just there for an evening meal and I couldn't fault the food, very good quality! The time waiting between courses took an age and extra portions ordered were forgotten so even more waiting.

Went there for dinner while staying for a few nights in Dornoch and the staff were lovely and the food was first class. We will definitely return when we are in that neck of the woods

Had a good stay here. Room was clean and comfortable. Good walk in shower too. Food at Dinner and breakfast was very good. Only disappointed was that the bar was not well stocked of ale, not everything was available that was on the menu, example Guinness was via a can but none in fridge. Staff very nice. Enjoyed will be back when golfing there again if I can.
