Down Hall Hotel & Spa

Fantastic one night stay at Down Hall last week. Rooms are immaculate, the building is beautiful and well maintained and staff are all extremely welcoming and friendly. Breakfast was great quality and plentiful with a good variety. Very glad we stayed here and would definitely return.

Visited this beautiful hotel for a friend's wedding in July. Everyone had a great time in a very luxurious setting.The room we stayed in was lovely and very spacious. Our 3 year old daughter slept very soundly on the sofa bed provided.Unfortunately, there were issues with the hot water in the morning, which meant that my family couldn't take showers in the morning. But the staff were very helpful and we couldn't fault them.

Overall stay was nice.The spa was slightly disappointing, my husband and I had facials that each cost £90. Although the facials were relaxing, some attention to detail was lacking, ie no steaming and extraction. We felt that the price tag was unjustified.Rooms are very spacious, however our shower water pressure was low.Food was excellent and the restaurant, bar and potting garden are very nicely decorated and carry a sophisticated atmosphere. Staff very attentive.Be aware that on the dinner packages, some items carry an additional surcharge.

Lovely staff, especially behind the bar and in the main restaurant. Spa was clean and welcoming. Main thing that let the whole experience down was the overpowering smell of sewer throughout the whole floor we stayed on, including our rooms. Reception said maintenance was aware but I did notice a wedding planned for the day on that same floor, poor people.

I write to express my deep concern and disappointment regarding recent incidents of bullying, harassment, and discrimination that took place within the venue by members of the Down hall Hotel & Spa management especially The senior Wedding Coordinator.Every individual deserves to be treated with respect, dignity, and fairness, regardless of their background, identity, or any other characteristic. During my visit I witnessed instances where this fundamental principle was not upheld.I hope and firmly believe that by addressing our concerns promptly and effectively, your hotel can restore faith in your services and maintain a positive customer relationship. I am confident that you value your customers and their satisfaction, and I trust that you will take immediate action to address this matter.

My family and I stayed at Down Hall this past weekend for a birthday celebration and we really enjoyed it! My Mum in particular is a very discerning hotel and spa goer and it didn't disappoint. The location is great, tucked away down some country lanes away from noise and bustle and there are some nice food spots about 20mins away in Bishops Stortford and Ongar. We ate in the main restaurant the first evening and had a lovely meal. The steak was fantastic and my brother raves about the venison. The portion sizes are indicative of more luxurious fare but you don't come away hungry. The staff were lovely throughout the stay and brought out a special birthday plate for my mum which was lovely. The bedrooms were lovely - well furnished and seemingly newly renovated. My bathroom was terribly hot but the front desk helped sort it. Some reviews make comment about the state of the main tea room and I will say it was visibly dusty on the curtains and my Mum likened it to an 'old folks home' - may be one for a spruce up. Finally, we tried the spa and it was great - the treatments were very professional and my brother ended up booking more the next day. I'd highly recommend for a relaxing weekend away.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Down Hall Hotel in Essex, and I can't recommend it enough! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the grandeur of the hotel's lovely spaces, which exuded a sense of luxury and elegance.The restaurant at Down Hall is truly a culinary gem. The food was nothing short of amazing, with a diverse menu that catered to all tastes. Every meal I had was a gastronomic delight, and the impeccable service made dining here an unforgettable experience. I absolutely loved the pumpkin desert, it was the highlight of the meal.One of the highlights of this hotel is its spacious outdoor area. It's perfect for families to enjoy, couples looking for a romantic escape, and even business meetings in a picturesque setting. The lush gardens and serene atmosphere make it a great place to unwind.If you're flying in or out of Stansted Airport, the proximity of Down Hall is incredibly convenient. It's a short drive away, yet you feel a world apart from the hustle and bustle of the airport.What truly sets this hotel apart is its staff. They are not only professional but also incredibly hospitable. They go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and memorable. Their warmth and attention to detail are commendable.In summary, Down Hall Hotel in Essex is a 5-star experience in every sense. I want to start by saying that, this hotel is beautiful and located in a beautiful place. Staff are very friendly and the food is delicious (I'm afraid to think where it was cooked!). The hotel is in need of a deep cleaning. We stayed here because it was my partner's birthday. The room we stayed in was an upgrade from the room we originally booked. In the room we stayed, the sink tub was build up with limescale and looked dirty. The bedsheets looked clean but it was itchy. The bottom sheet of the bed looked very dirty. The carpet in the room looked dirty, I was afraid to walk barefoot in it. The curtains hanging all over the hotel looks like it could do with a good wash. The sofas in the afternoon tea room looked very dirty. The hotel smells dusty in need of air freshener. My partner and I stayed in many hotels, If cleanliness wasn't an issue here, this would've been one of my favourite hotels.

Attended a wedding at this venue and it was absolutely stunning. Massive Manor House with lots of rooms. The interior is decorated really well, modern but ties in with the building itself.There is a lot of grounds, the wedding was outdoors and didn’t offer much shade whilst the ceremony took place.There is a big water feature and outdoor seating which was lovely to have cocktails and canopies before the wedding breakfast.The staff were very helpful and always on hand.
