Lovely place to go for a walk, suitable for wheelchair users too,as there is a path the whole way. Beautiful scenery. Love walking my dogs here.

Interesting feature! Not convinced by the dates but there is another well like this in Portsoy which isn't far from here. Beautiful scenery here

The Red Well (Whitehills)
A small beehive shaped stone hut with a small spring inside that dates from Roman times , water has so much iron in it it is unfit for human consumption

The Red Well (Whitehills)
It is a stone built structure with no apparent function and dubious claim to Roman occupation , totally pointless place

The Red Well (Whitehills)
The red well is a lovely old site but it is not Roman. There is no archaeological or historic evidence to place it that far back. The structure is early modern in appearance though extensive C19th & C20th modernisations are evident. Sadly it is locked so you can only view the I side through the gate. Frustratingly, the water is labelled as not fit for human consumption, without any explanation given.
