Mwnt Erddig Motte

Plenty of history in one place. Little known Norman castle built by the earl of Chester in the late 11th century. Quite hard to find as there aren't any signs however it does make it nice and quiet meaning you can take your time and have a good look around. The castle never made it to a fully fledged stone building meaning all that remains are the earth works which have been altered in the 18 hundreds for landscaping purposes. However it is still worth making the effort to come and see not only the castle but the area itself. There is also a small portion of watts dyke incorporated into the castle defences.Combined with a visit to the house and the surrounding area this is a fantastic day out.
