Almond House Lodge
If the owner actually bothered to invest money in this place it would be great. Unfortunately he doesn't want to invest the money. I had the displeasure of staying here for a week and I really don't know how the council let this place stay open. On the landing I was staying on there was a big hole in the ceiling with water dripping through right next to exposed electrical wires which is health and safety on its own. The floors creak like nobody's business you could hear everybody walk up and down the halls also the person up above us. The walls are that paper thin you could hear every conversation. There's a horrid smell lingering throughout the place. And as for hygiene forget about it. The carpet in my room was horrendous. The ceiling dipped where there had been a previous leak and the cowboy job to fix it was laughable. Burnt out light in the room. The beds felt like sleeping on a slab. Nearest shop is about half an hour's walk away. No street lights on the main road going to the place so didn't feel safe on a night. No close bus stop. To be honest I think even the rats run away from this place. The council seriously need to inspect this place and shut it down because it's not fit for purpose. Also repeatedly asked for a kettle because there wasn't one in the room but they were waiting on an order". Talk about making money off people's misery. The people that stay there deserve better in my opinion. Calling this place a hell hole is an insult to hell holes."

The view is stunning, but the rooms are less then basic, not clean and the furniture quivered at the touch. There where smells of sick and bleach in my room and it was warmer outside then inside though the heating was running on high. In the end I did not stay the night.

Well. If you book a budget hotel you can't expect 6 star luxury. We found the staff extremely helpful and anything we asked for we were furnished with. I am disabled and use an electric wheelchair to get about, which the reception staff were only to pleased to charge every day for me. They even came to the car to get it out for me.The room was basic but clean and the bed very comfortable. There was tea and coffee facilities. The water was very hot and shower was great. I would recommend this hotel and we will be back.

At least a roof over your head.Nothing special. Very stressful situations. Not great for people who suffer from anxiety or depression.Occasionally dodgy people walking around. If you don't have another choice it's ok I guess.

The room I had book was clean and tidy. Had a fridge, kettle, TV, ample lighting, good ventilation and even knives, forks, spoons and a cup. They also have a kitchen and laundry. Location is gorgeous. A stones throw from Cramond waterfront. The air is fresh and it's extremely quiet. Staff are always very well mannered and approachable. Always willing to help and are always happy. All in all, a very pleasant experience indeed.

Hardly deserving of one star. This place is being used by the council as temporary b&b for homeless people and families. There are no street lights or bus service within a ten minute walk. Totally unsuitable for families.Cooking facilities consist of two microwave ovens which have to serve 90 rooms. It looks run down and needs maintenance. When we first arrived there was only one working light in the room. When we requested the rest were fixed, only half of them were. Window latches ill-fitting, bedding was stained, toilet flushed sporadically. The kettle in the room had been used without water by a former visitor so the element produced burnt smelling water. They did eventually replace it. Our keycard for the room would reset frequently so we had to contact reception to have it sorted. Apparently we were to blame for it resetting as we Must have had it near a mobile phone".Staff were

The quality of this place absolutely horrendous. From the outside, it looks as though it is the set of a slaughterhouse in a movie or as though it may be haunted. Some passeby even stopped to process the look of this place. As you walk in, you are hit by the smell of urine wafting into your nostrils. The carpeted floors are left unclean, the walls with molded and appearing as though they rot with age, and the windows look as though they haven't been washed in decades. And the curtains of the windows... well, they looked diseased. The bathroom... I shall not go there.Even though it is used as temporary accommodation for those who are temporarily homeless, these aren't the conditions that a human being must live in. It is as though the worth of a human being is degraded to that of an animal just because they are struggling temporarily. It is a shame to see some families staying here with their little children even though things such as mold are known to have a bad effect on health.

The Almond Lodge is clean and has a good situation by the sea however, it is obviously being run on a shoestring. The bar is locked and permanently closed wifi is just in the lobby and the rooms are very bare and the bathroom has low water pressure. I stayed for 2 nights and my towels weren't folded up after the first night.Breakfast is 8-10 and there is no booking an early pick up; I wasn't too upset because it is less than inspiring but functional and continental only. I would have liked to have been offered a cooked breakfast but sadly this was not on offerThis hotel is hostel standard and if you are happy to accept somewhere that is functional and clean go for it.
