Strutts park
Site of the original Roman fort in Derby from around 50 to 80AD; however, nothing remains.Nowadays it forms part of Darley Park, although technically it is a separate park.Impressively large and well kept public park with easy access from Derby city centre.Lots of wide open green spaces, the river Derwent running through it and surrounded by trees, including some amazing specimen trees. The walled herbaceous boarder garden is nice and peaceful with bees and butterflies happily going about their business. To the rear of the herbaceous garden is the walled hydrangea garden which is part of the national collection and is hugely impressive with each variety named. There's a cafe selling hot/cold drinks, hot/cold food and ice cream with a toilet around the corner, there's also a small children's playground too. This has become our go to place for a gentle walk or bike ride or just to escape the endless concrete of Derby city centre.
