Skelwith Fold Caravan Park
What a clean and tidy camp site and delighted to say, fantastic staff. It is like a car park sadly but otherwise it’s really nice, with great facilities. On the premium pitches (£50PN) the bigger pitches and tv point was good but, it was rubbish for Dogs as simply nowhere near to take them.We got dishwasher tokens, 1 per night which was different!Best if you have a car though as it is remote, a taxi to town is £8

It was a long drive up to Skelwirth (about 5.5 hours) and it was nice to receive a confirmation call on the way up to confirm where the place is and who to contact on arrival.A lovely pod and liked that the decking was gated so it made the area was dog proof. Sufficient items for cooking if needed although we cheated and visited local places (Apple Pie shop in Ambleside for breakfast and The Badger pub at Rydal for great evening meals). To be honest I enjoyed sitting on the decking, watching the world go by, especially in the morning where we (Rocha & I) watched a deer walk past.Another top tip, check out the BBQ covered area just round the corner from Wagtail, top idea thereMeanwhile, special mention should go out to the duty managers and Sally in particular who was an absolute star and such a credit to the place. Friendly, helpful and attentive, especially to our chocolate Labrador Rocha.

We stayed 5 nights in our caravan.Great level pitches with plenty of space and water point very close. The site is very well placed in the Lakes. The facilities are very excellent from spotless shower/toilet blocks with underfloor heating, washing up areas,dog/bike wash area, shop, laundry and drying racks and a library. It was very peaceful despite it being full, up until Friday night when new people came in and weren't so thoughtful of others. Glad we went when the school holidays were over. The staff are very friendly, calling round checking during the day and night to make sure everything is ok,they are doing an excellent job the place is spotless. Would definitely recommend and go there again if we ever decide to visit the area again

Facilities clean but this is not the place for young couples. Warden made us move our camper 6 inches to the right because we were ‘too close’ to other pitch, which our friends were camping on. Speed limit of 8.5mph throughout the site but staff buggies zooming around everywhere. Told we weren’t allowed to put a one man dome tent up for storage despite other people have huge 6-8 man tents up on other pitches. Not the Lake District experience you’d hope for.

A very beautiful site well organised and was pleased with choosing your own pitch. The facilities are very clean with great showers and the site is in a great location close to Windermere, Ambleside and Coniston. Upon arrival we had to wait til 2pm on the dot to enter with the caravan even though on the phone we was told there was a chance we could get on to a pitch earlier once the wardens had done there checks. This then meant there was a queue at the entrance and everyone has to enter at once and check in which seemed silly. The warden which greeted us at 2pm wasn’t informative and just said “off you go” we had to say we have never been before what is the procedure? As the drive is very long and the site can be confusing to navigate if you’ve never been before, since then we felt this warden took a disliking to us in his demeanour. It felt abit prison like, with him constantly patrolling round our caravan making comments and being petty over a sticker they give you in the window , he approached our awning walked right up to the door whilst we were relaxing in our caravan and interrupted saying “put your sticker in the window” I said it’s in the car window? He said in the caravan window , bare in mind this is a day before we are due to leave and yet the 2 days prior with all the patrolling around they do, no one mentioned anything. At check in the man said “put this in your window” which isn’t clear so of course we put it in the car like most other sites. This made us realise how petty this site can be such as the 8.5mph speed limit, the precise diagram of how to park your caravan /awning and car and the 2pm on the dot check in when half the pitches were empty( a lady walking past the entrance said to us all waiting that the site was half empty and it was ridiculous us all sitting there in the heat) so overall the site is very clean and we did enjoy our stay but some of the rules are over kill and it’s a shame there are wardens it would have a nicer feel without the need to patrol. Perhaps because we are a young couple in an old caravan this particular warden didn’t like us …

What can we say had a absolutely fantastic stay in our caravan in August one of best and cleanest sites we have been to .we were a bit worried because people were saying about the hard standings for the caravans looked like a car park I can honestly say this is not True at all .the hard standing is very easy to get pegs into for your awnings the pitches are very spacious and site very very clean the showers and toilet blocks were kept absolutely spotless and are very modern the staff were very helpfully and friendly The site itself is surrounded by beautiful woodlands and trees so you can walk for hours just on site. the children’s play park is very well equipped we struggled to get my son of it .the site is also very well positioned for visiting lake windermere and surrounding breathtaking countryside we had a fantastic time and will be back again thank you very very much for making our stay so lovelyMel & Stuart Gooderham

Stayed here, in our motorhome, for one night. Showers and toilets were spotlessly clean, with heated tiled flooring. They obviously take great pride in their establishment, and it shows.£30 including electric hook up on free draining granite chip ground. They have grey water & toilet water disposal. Reception area is first class (decent coffee machine £2).They will accept after 9pm arrivals, in a holding area (so as not to disturb others).Lots of staff on hand, on large woodland site, about an hours walk or 8 min drive into Ambleside

Absolutely lovely place but we were parked this time on the premium pitches which we wanted to stay on but unfortunately the people that had parked right next to us had parked close they had 2 cars and only thought one was to be there we felt very trapped in and once again the amount of people just letting there dogs run around off leads is so frustrating as we have two dogs always on leads and one of our dogs is very anxious when another dog runs at him so once again. I had to choose where I walked him and was on my guard at all times which spoils my holiday some people are so selfish I wouldn't say anything but there are signs all around the site asking to keep dogs on leads at all times . The staff were great but unfortunately probably won't stay on these pitches again it did feel like we were stopping on a car park

Great campsite, More expensive than most but 100% you get what you paid for, cleanest toilets we have ever seen, even heated floor in the showers. Whole site is spotless and very well kept. Visiting pizza van even do gluten free pizza, but you need to order them in advance, (number plastered over site) we will be back.
