Situated adjacent to Rothley Station on the Great Central Railway, this is a charming country cafe with plenty of seating inside and out and great views of passing trains, especially during event days.It offers a great choice of food and i particularly find the scones delicious and fresh.Pros;Great location to stop offPlenty of walks in the areaMore than enough seatingCons;Parking can be tricky on event days but plenty of overflow parking at the top of the road.If you are travelling near by or on the train then this lovely cafe is definitely worth a stop off to watch history go by.

I always support the GCR when I'm at the station, and the bacon cob, coffee, hot chocolate, and toast were superb as usual. Run by enthusiastic people, it's a great place to spend a morning waiting for the steam trains to arrive. I just wish they had more trains running :D

Quick service, reasonable prices. At Ellis 19/6/22. Still the same. Good atmosphere, lovely breakfast, hot & tasty. Pot of tea for 3 good value, plenty of refills. No so good this time. Long wait for drinks. This was due to a staff member feeling unwell & having to go home. Combined with a week of rain, then Sunday was warm. with clear skies & bright sunshine. It seemed a lot of people took advantage of this and were out walking or just came to Rothley to watch the trains. At one time all outside seating was full and so was the indoor area. It won't put me off, I'll go again in the New Year.

Lovely afternoon tea in Ellis Tea rooms. The scones were yummy as we the Victoria sandwich. Recommend.

Had a pot of tea & a lovely piece of carrot cake, my companion had the gluten free Victoria sponge which she said was the lightest cake she'd had in ages. We saw steam trains, diesel engines & it was a lovely bright day. Only downside was the cafe was shut when we got there but opened again after about 15 minutes.

Very disappointed with this pretty cafe in a lovely setting. Served tea in paper cups and sandwiches on paper plates and disposable cutlery whilst dining inside . I asked for the tea in a cup but was told short staffed and not changed policy since Covid . It wasn’t cheap either ! I brought a japanese visitor as a treat to show them English scones , very upset to be served it this way, it wasn’t great either . Will not be returning

Great place to sit, have something to eat and drink (cafe style) and watch the occasional train go by.

Such a lovely setting for afternoon tea!The table was laid out ready for us on arrival, the staff were attentive and smiley throughout. Our drinks were served within minutes of arrival and the food was plentiful and tasted great - fresh sarnies, warm scones with tons of jam and cream and miniature cakes, our personal favourite was the mini chocolate orange éclair - amazing. We were too full to finish our sweet treats but a member of staff kindly offered a takeaway box so we could enjoy them later. We couldn't fault the environment, staff, service or food in any way and will absolutely return. If you're after something special over Christmas, they have a festive afternoon tea menu which sounds divine!
