Crown & Mitre Hotel

All the pictures on the net do not remotely reflect what we really encountered. An old hotel that had its best year 6o years ago. The lady at the reception was very uninterested in us. During the whole process of checking in, she was on the phone with a friend, telling her about the experiences of the previous evening. To get to the room we had to walk across the parking lot. The room was on the second floor. The lift had apparently been broken for some time. The room itself was small, old and quite musty. The carpet was so greasy that we put a towel line through the room. The bathroom was okay, breakfast too.

STAY AWAY, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!Disgraceful, this place is awful. Me and my partner traveled 250 miles for a weekend away, we checked into the hotel late after a good day out. After we struggled to find parking we checked into our room, it was in a separate building altogether!The style was dated and very run down, not to mention the dirt. There were hairs everywhere, on the bed, floor and bathroom. The shower was filthy and the bin had not been changed! The mugs had dirt left inside them and there was dust everywhere. The walls are so thin we could hear everyone around, the room next to us was having a party at midnight with no care for anyone around them!They refused a refund on the spot so we had to drive home at 1am after a long day. This place is the worst I have ever been to and I suggest you think twice before having your trip ruined like I did. I have photos of the room for reference.

Really central hotel which after walking 75 miles of the Cumbria Way was welcome! A sort of faded elegance about the place. The room was reasonable if a little dated and the view was non existent- obviously town centre - but it was a bit terrible of the back end of the hotel - roofs etc. It did have its own car park and breakfast was great. Staff were all very friendly.

Lovely staff and location. The hotel is nice comfy beds, great breakfast. The rooms are adequate but have seen better days needs bringng up to date with either new carpets or a really good shampooing also the chairs. Hope.the owners do modernise the rooms before they start look8 g seedy

Good food, nice swimming pool, staff helpful. Only one thing carpark, we went for 2 nights had to wait for a parking space.

Room fine, bit tired, breakfast nice, staff really friendly, car park tiny so don't expect a space. Evening on street parking nearby if you know where to look. There was a wedding reception in a ground floor reception room, the music could be heard clearly on floor 2, and continued until midnight, not conducive to a relaxing stay (hence, 3 ⭐). As we were in Carlisle to visit family we didn't need to be central, if you do its a great location. Sad to say I would think again before returning unless I want to be close to castle and cathedral.

Staff at reception totally uninterested not welcoming. Family room had no bars on windows which made it very unsafe. Twin room was a shoe box with a noisy window & a church outside that has bells ringing every hour. Over priced.

Great stay at the Crown & Mitre Hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location. Scrumptious buffet breakfast. Dog friendly. Already booked our next stay.

An amazing luxurious experience, at a fantastic price! Like stepping back into the bygone days of Edwardian splendour and top class service. Unlike the many bland soulless budget hotels you find today, this hotel has the grandeur of yesteryear, and the staff are extremely efficient and helpful.Cannot praise this hotel enough, totally deserves 5 stars.Well worth a visit. Plus a convenient location to visit without a car as everything on the doorstep.Will most definitely be returning.

Great hotel in the centre of Carlisle. Stayed here to attend our son's Graduation. It is a 'grand hotel', with large rooms sweeping staircase and lots of wood panels. It is a bit 'dated' but I feel adds to the charm of the place. The pool was great and we had a relaxing time, chilling with our son's. Nice bar on the ground floor and a great place to meet with others. Breakfast was as you would expect. Enjoyed our stay here.
