St Mary's Church
Situated in a secluded position near the Orwell Estuary, but unfortunately not open to normal view apparently due to vandalism. St Mar'y is a Grade ll listed building having. C12 origins with C14-15 nave and chancel and C15 tower. C19 porch and vestry.

St Mary's Church
Fantastic, hidden gem off the beaten path, that requires a short but wonderful walk from the village down a magical path.

St Mary's Church
St. Mary's is a very secluded church on the high ground of Wherstead, overlooking the Orwell Estuary. Nowadays it's surrounded by tall trees, but previously it was openly visible to mariners & became a landmark for shipping. Because the tower is quite short, a makeshift spire was added by mounting a lead ball on 4 supports. St. Mary's has a surprisingly rural feel about it for a churchyard located so closeby the Ipswich bypass approaching the Orwell Bridge. The beautiful old church is small & perfectly proportioned with stone tower & tracery windows. There's a lot of intricate stained glass decorating the traditional interior. A well carved wooden lychgate leads into the churchyard from Church Lane. Its churchyard is especially pretty with wildflowers amongst some very old gravestones & merges naturally into local woodland.
