Derby School of Music - Piano, Singing, Violin & Guitar Lessons

I have played guitar since the age of 13 but have always wanted to be able sing too, so in my 50s I decided to contact Derby School Of Music.When I explained my favourite genres I was placed with Simon as my singing teacher.Simon explains technique in a way that is easy to understand and his teaching is relaxed and always accurate to the music. This means that progress is made each week without fail.If there is an occasional week that you can’t attend the one to one class then a live online lesson is available with him which means that you do not have to miss a lesson and valuable practicing time.Simon is extremely encouraging, very dedicated and keen for you to achieve your singing goals.Thoroughly recommended.

Martyn is an excellent teacher - he is patient, gives clear explanations and makes lessons fun. Our daughter was nervous about starting lessons but Martyn quickly put her at ease and she now loves playing piano, is making great progress and looks forward to her lesson. Highly recommend.

Have been there for around 4/5 years and have improved so much in my musical skills, confidence and performance since I started because of the concerts and competitions that the teachers host. Also the piano teachers (Steve is mine) are so incredibly talented, fun and helpful. He can make anybody smile even on their worst day and will always encourage you to do your best ☺️Steve Machin (who runs the school)is a very understanding and kind person who organisers everything! He takes time out of his already busy day to arrange all of the wonderful concerts we all love so without him there would be nothing.I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all my singing lessons too due to the positive environment that my teacher Simon radiates. Every lesson is enjoyable no matter how well I sound. The teachers are all trained extremely well and the lessons are great for all ages-youth and elderly.My family loves our lessons and believe that Derby School of Music is the best school in Derby!

Simon is a fantastic vocal coach. Great at bringing confidence and therefore the best out of you. Aside from the technical improvements, my knowledge of music theory has improved dramatically!I've also had interactions with other staff/teachers, including Steve (owner). Cannot say anything negative about the school at all or any of the staff. They really give you a platform to build on.5 stars - would recommend to anyone

Adaoma has been with the same violin teacher (Marika) for more than a year.She is well settled and enjoys her weekly lesson face to face or online.Marika has the skills required to guide child novice to mastering an instrument like violin.The teacher and the school also provide opportunities for competitions and shows that help young musicians develop.I cannot recommend the teacher and the school highly enough.We are waiting for a slot for the younger sister to start her own violin lessons.

I joined Derby school of music a few years ago having decided to restart the violin after a small 36 year break! Marika has been fantastic and helped me to my grade 5 within 2 years (I passed grade 4 in 1984 and hadn't played since). I will be sitting grade 6 in less than 2 weeks time & really feel that the support and guidance I get is excellent value for money. The school have numerous events during the year including a summer and Christmas concert. I'd highly recommend them
