The place looks really great, proper posh and fancy, with Rick Steins name (of which I am a big fan) plastered everywhere I thought it would be a dead cert. However, service was much to be desired. If I were to give it a world it would be timid, I wanted to be taken on a journey, educated, spoilt, swept off my feet and told what to do. Instead I was recommended the house wine and some new (utterly dry) potatoes. The staff didn’t really know what to do, friendly but no real spunk, timid and shy I felt I had to hold their hand through proceedings.Overall an enjoyable night, but would get the same service and food at the local pub.Sorry Rick, I still love ya x

We visited the restaurant to round off our holiday in Cornwall by having a nice meal from the seasonal menu. The food was nice and tasty, however the positives end there. The service left a lot to be desired. Although it was not busy when we visited, several issues dampened the experience. No appropriate cutlery was provided, the waiter was nowhere to be found, the food had gone cold by the time he appeared, and when we wanted to order more drinks he had disappeared again. We ended up leaving early and cutting dinner short. Truly disappointing experience for the price charged.

Absolutely amazing and wonderful experience today, Sunday 3rd September. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We were made to feel very special. We had the lobster, lemon sole and the monkfish. All arrived at the same time, super fresh and hot. We all had a pudding, you can’t fault the sticky toffee pudding. Can’t wait to return. Olivia and Jaz did an amazing job today.

Visited in a Tuesday evening.Service was slow but friendly, had to wait quite a while for plates to be cleared and had to sadly grab servers attention for drinks.Asked for a wine recommendation and the house was what was provided and very little interaction overall.Food was okay, not sure it met value for money. Side salad very over peppered and the monkfish, although fresh and well cooked had very little else.Restaurant was overly warm and brightly lit. No music or feel of atmosphere. There was obviously in the past an attention to detail that this restaurant deserves but sadly along the way this has been lost, dirty side plate, no clearing of starter cutlery or decorative wine glasses which stayed throughout the meal.Generally disappointing for the money you pay but a clean relaxed restaurant for a relatively pleasant evening.

Sadly not a great experience this time. Took a while to be welcomed (not sure we felt welcome) on entry. Once seated we were ignored for 30 minutes before I managed to catch a member of staff to ask for water and drinks. Food was ok but we weren’t as impressed as in previous visits. There were no visits to our table to offer wine refills etc which as it was my birthday I was well up for!Overall, the staff were friendly (when we did see them) but appeared disinterested and disengaged which is the reason we are unlikely to return. They did remove the cost of our drinks and service charge when we complained and seemed unsurprised and not at all bothered which is a huge shame.

Waited for what feels like a lifetime for every course of our meal. There were only two other tables around when we arrived for late lunch at 2:30. We waited about half an hour for our entrees and another 10 minutes just for dessert! They had automatic tips on the bill as well. The two stars are since the food was still pretty good. I got a whole bream and my partner got the lunch special. The chips were very tasty. The cheesecake dessert was quite good as well. Overall such a steep price for really bad service.

A friend and I booked here as a treat for my birthday earlier in the year. We'd had 2 nights at fistral beach prior to staying at Rick's Cafe in Padstow. We were really looking forward to experiencing Rick's renowned menu. Our table was booked for 7.30pm. We ordered starters after 8pm and I know scallops are a special treat but £19.95 for 3 felt expensive but as we were at St Petrocs I thought it will be worth it. My friend order the fish soup for her main, which we eventually received well after 9pm after asking where they were. We didn't order desserts. We asked for the bill which also took a while and then the restaurant had emptied and no-one came to let us pay. We walked to the reception and asked kitchen staff if we could pay. All the waiting staff were in the office. The manager/concierge took our payment without acknowledgement of our wait. The waitress had removed the soup from the bill as my friend had gone past wanting it after ordering nearly 2 hours previously. Not the standard of service or experience expected. Disappointing took the shine off, although food was nice but not as outstanding as expected.

Came here today for my 50th birthday treat. Ordered a lot of tasty food!. Really delicious and the service was spot on, attentive without being too over the top. Liv served us and she was so lovely, remembering which cutlery we needed at every course. The recommendations were fab. Thank you once again.

This was on my bucket list to dine in one of Rick Stein restaurants for years. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and the food was superb. Myself and my friend dined in the dog friendly lounge as I had my dog with me. I had the scallops and lobster for main, both cooked perfectly. The service was a little lax, I had to leave my table twice to find someone. As I am in the business and are front of house I found it disappointing that there was nobody checking tables. However it did not impact our visit. I would definitely return.
