Barker's Pond
The water was well up ,very cool wind, some platforms were submerged ,some were floating off the scaffold bases, and a few were not in the best nicI had 2 fish in 4 hours , lost 1+ 3 ghost runs, first time I've fished there, worth another visit.

Good fishing here but the place is somewhat neglected, most of the platforms have been vandalised and are unsafe to fish from, casting out can be a pain from some pegs as the trees need cutting back.Fishing wise there is a good stock of carp in here, i've caught as small as a few ounces up to around 12-15lbs, probably bigger in here but can't seem to tempt them with my method feeder! Also a good head of tench up to maybe 6lbs who seem to thrive in the murky coloured water. You can easily catch 10 carp in a 6 hour session so i'd class this as a runs water, not difficult at all.Used to be jack pike in here in the 90's but no-ones been complaining about getting bitten off recently so i assume the pike have sadly gone.See the odd pole jockey sat around catching tiddlers so a few roach and perch etc in here, the odd skimmer but few and far between.Boilies are banned here, i imagine, to keep the bivvy brigade away from hogging the place all day.Depth wise you're looking at 1-2ft in the margins and drops off quickly to around 4ft average, maybe 6ft towards the middle. Alot of detritus down the edge to get snagged up on, quite often pulling twigs and branches out when i cast to the reeds.Carp and tench respond well to method feeder, pellet feeder and pellet cone to the reeds, especially on corner peg 1 nearest the bungalows (if the wind is favourable). All along the roadside bank you can put luncheon meat on a waggler down the edge to snare a few fish.Pellet waggler doesn't produce much here, just isn't the quanity of fish in here unlike a packed commercial, surface controller with a floating bait works well in the height of summer. As for baits, the carp and tench love pellets, luncheon meat and corn in here. Never tried maggot myself but could be worth a go.Wish they'd sell this place to someone like Pride of Derby who would surely invest some money in it.

The fishing is great here, lovely tench and carp up to 20lb. The pegs are all but destroyed due to weather and lack of maintenance but always a good days fishing here.

Great days fishing to be had here.I've fished these waters for a few months now as I'm quite new to the fishing world, however I've always been greeted with friendly smiles and help from other anglers.I've gone from float fishing using maggots catching around 30 perch and roach with my kids in a 5 hour session to now moving on to bigger fish.I currently am trying to lure the tench out with luncheon meat and pellet, carp seem to love 4mm pellet with pineapple finish I've caught from 2lb to 15lb using this on peg number 8 on the left hand side by the reed / trees. The carp in the pond I think are of the highest quality I've seen, no rough marks, seem very well looked after and cared for, anglers must be using a landing net at all times when fishing for the bigger fish on these waters. The pond could do with some TLC in a few areas, however it also gives it a strange character with the odd sofa in the water, and broken pegs makes it look a bit sore on the eyes but under the water the fish seem to hide there?Day tickets are £3 and members I think are around £20 per year so good value for money.
