Excellent atmosphere, hospitality, friendly bar staff and a good selection of drinks. Will definitely visit again, highly recommended.

Rude and arrogant staff. The manager told us to leave the table we had been sitting at for 1 hour. Was no reserve sign, but apparently is just her 'friends table'. We then had to stand out in the rain. Finished our pints and went to a different pub. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!

Even before lockdown this was a favourite of mine.Beautiful old building with bags of character. Friendly staff ready to guide you through the range of beers available. Not sure what you want, they will ask you what you like and makes ace suggestions.Been back since Covid and one of the few places taking their responsibilities seriously. Enter via the side gate, not through the pub, straight in to the beer garden. Before entering you have to provide your details and have temperature taken, you're then shown to your table. Drinks are served via table service and bill's settled at the end.The pub is run by Grain who are a superb brewery boardering Norfolk and Suffolk. They have a wide range of beers to suit all tastes.

Really nice place. Lovely beer garden. Proper sun trap! Nice house gin and friendly staff. Oldest pub in Ipswich. Not serving food right now due to covid and no seating indoors (covid). Great place!

By far one of the nicest pubs in town. The manager is an absolute sweetheart, and general lovely and friendly vibes all round whenever I go. Also, beautiful beer garden!

Stumbles across this place on a trip around Ipswich. An old pub with character, a good selection of beers, clean tables, and friendly bar staff. I would come back again and recommend.

Beer festival on this weekend, called Grain Fest. Cast ales, selection of spirits. Pretty garden area with lights and three pots of bamboo plants, in different places. Painted walls. Ash trays for smokers. Parasols at tables . DJ in outside. Shabby chic interior. Crisps and nuts, no food served at pub. Take away food places very close, you can eat take if you ask at the bar. Indian close too. No parking. Quiet at 8pm on a Friday inside during the summer 12 people outside in garden.

It's one of my favourite places in Ipswich! The service is great , the place is clean and the beer is fantastic! The greatest thing about this pub is that it is very inclusive!

A Nightmarish Encounter with Power-Drunk Staff!Beware, potential patrons! My recent visit to the spread eagle turned into a surreal nightmare, thanks to the astounding lack of professionalism and a serious power trip from the management. Two weeks ago, my card was stolen on the premises, and instead of the expected empathy, I was greeted with audacious accusations of dishonesty from the manager. The rudeness was off the charts, and I was dealing with someone on a power trip.Thankfully, a neighbouring pub, proved to be a shining beacon of customer service and helped me retrieve my card. Little did I know, my ordeal was far from over.Upon returning a week later, I found myself banned by the manager. Trying to reason with her was like talking to a brick wall—only, this wall was not just indifferent but shockingly rude. The reason for my ban? Another customer's wrongdoing! The manager seemed to relish in her newfound authority, displaying an alarming level of aggression and an outright refusal to provide any valid reason for my ban. It was a blatant power trip, and the rudeness was beyond what one would expect in any customer-service-oriented establishment. If you're a fan of being accused, mistreated, and subjected to an authoritarian power trip, by all means, visit the spread eagle. For the rest of us who value respect and courtesy, steer clear of this establishment.

Small, cosy pub with a good sized courtyard. All the staff are friendly and have a good choice of drinks.Only downside is they don’t really do food.Dogs are welcome.
