Yarak Birds of Prey

Took my 11 year old son here as a birthday present today. Lovely location set in beautiful countryside and handy for us being 5 minutes from home.The staff are very welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. On arrival we grabbed a cup of tea/hot chocolate and were allowed to wander around and look at some of the birds in their averies before being lead into the indoor flying barn (due to recent bird flu outbreak they weren't flying them outside). We got to handle and fly several owls in the morning and then had a break for lunch. The food choices were fairly limited but a good enough variety for most people to find something they like. The food itself was nice and a decent size, prices were equivalent to going to a pub, not that I begrudged paying as the money helps support the centre.After lunch we went back to the barn and enjoyed handling and flying numerous birds which was great, the staff told us about the habitats they would be found in the wild along with information about the specific bird.Overall a really enjoyable day which both my son and I really enjoyed, would highly recommend anyone with an interest in birds of prey to come here. Thank you to the staff for making it a memorable day out.

Went to Yarak today with my wife, her cousin and her partner. This was a gift experience for the partner. My wife and I considered booking the experience but the price put us off. Instead of £90 each, we decided to pay £10 each and just watch (not take part) in the afternoon session. BIG mistake. This place is amazing. The staff are really friendly and you can tell the birds are really well cared for. We don't live locally but will definitely be travelling the 140 miles back from Wales later this year to experience the whole day. Thank you to John and the whole team at Yarak.

Very welcoming from the start. Meg was excellent with her presentation and very knowledgeable about the birds that she introduced to us. Kurt , her assistant was also very helpful. The food was very good. Even though it was hot and the flying had to be done inside due to Asian bird flu, we had a very good hands on experience. John , the owner, also made an appearance. He was very informative and showed the experience and love that he had for these birds. Well worth a visit if you are the slightest bit interested in birds of Prey. Thank you Guys. Had a fantastic day at Yarak Birds of Prey. It was a humbling experience to handle the various birds of prey - from little Dottie (small owl) to Maya a Chilean Blue Eagle.Meg was never fazed by the many questions put to her - she is a great asset to Yarak. Well done Meg and good luck with your assessment-we're sure you'll pass with 'flying' colours.Well worth a visit.

My family know I love birds of prey, especially owls, so they bought me this experience for my 65th. We've been to birds of prey centres before, with different experiences, but found this to be the most instructive. I also had a feeling which I can't really explain, that there was a more personal engagement with the birds, as well as with the visitors. It was clear that the birds, despite being wild creatures, were very comfortable with the staff. Less commercialised than others we've been to.

Staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and you get to fly birds of prey yourself with excellent supervision. I would highly recommend Yarak! As a birthday present for my son, he was over the moon. Visit this place, you will not be disappointed!

We had the best day! Such a great variation of birds and the staff were very professional and they clearly prioritised the birds’ needs, which was lovely to see. A great day..... there was plenty of time to hold" all of the birds in addition to being involved in the flight of half of them. Due to the weather the day was conducted inside without diminishing the experience. Lunch was an added bonus...my fish pie was just perfect. Thanks to everyone involved. An ideal day for anyone with an interest in learning more about the habitat and habits of these wonderful creatures. Essential to book in advance"

A real treat for bird of prey enthusiasts.Our experience day was limited to indoors due to the concerns regarding bird flu which is totally unacceptable given the circumstances and the birds welfare are clearly a priority.Meg our host was excellent answering everyone's questions.Lunch was good
