The Monks' Well

If you like local history this will interest you.Its a 15th Century Grade 2 listed Holy Well on the corner of Mill Lane and North Drive.It was built near a monastery and people paid alms to use the water.Theres lots of stories surrounding it there's thought to be underground tunnels beneath it.It was in use until the mid 18th century when more modern water sources took over.

Historically interesting and easily missed pre monist ration well marker. Although the well is now filled in, a pumping station in the playground behind, still draws water from the original underground source. An old legend stated that if any hapless passers by did not placate the demon residing within the well, by means of throwing some coins in, then they would never see they're journeys end!
