Our Lady on the Bridge Chapel
I had the opportunity to go inside and down into the vault on one of their open days. Such an interesting little building steeped in rich history. The volunteers are a friendly and welcoming bunch who are very knowledgeable about the local history that surrounds this intriguing building. Well worth a visit even if you just admire their famous history stain glass window which tells the story of the civil war days in Rotherham. To get to the vault you do need to go backwards down a small ladder and the ground is rough and uneven but you will get to see some historical graffiti and the original 15th century doors.

Not very big but big on history, from bullet holes on the outside walls to evidence of a second floor you can visit the prison area and see photos of how the chapel has changed over the years. Only open once a month but worth a visit, can buy drinks and snacks on open days, all proceeds go to the keep of the chapel

A beautiful little medieval chapel with loads of history and atmosphere. On the occasional open days they have they give you a guided tour of the crypt which used to be the local jail. There are cell doors down there covered in graffiti written by prisoners long ago. You really get a feel for the prisoners who stayed in those tiny damp cells with stone bunks..There is a beautiful stained glass window at the back of the chapel and a tiny window at the front reached by a staircase where in medieval times the chaplain used to place a candle every night to welcome visitors to Rotherham.

Small building packed with so much history from being a Chapel, tobacconist shop, family home and prison. Volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable and cake is on hand. Check the website or Facebook page for open days

We popped in here one Saturday whilst in town and noticed it was open. I'm really pleased we did. Volunteers there were amazing! so friendly and knowledgeable - we got a tour of the 'cellar' with the history, had a cake and some coffee and a really good chat.... a very well spent few hours with some lovely people. I would recommend a visit

It was fabulous! Very friendly people to give you history, information and a tour. The Chapel has had a very interesting past and I would say it's for all ages. Probably plan an hour or two, there's hot drinks and cake!

Very interesting, lovely building with interesting history. The old cells beneath the Chapel were worth seeing but access is severely limited.
