I was not feeling this place, wasn't a very tranquil walk. I can see it being perfect for horse riders or bikes or taking your children out for the day, but it's not for doggies. The paths are very wide which is great and have sort of gravel/dirt on so they are great to walk, push a pram or bike. We didn't see any forest trails, the existing ones were closed which is a shame so you had to walk on the big paths. The parking is a bit pricey as well £2 for an hour, £4 for 2 hours and £6 for the day. There's a lovely cafe too just near the car park that overlooks the fields. I do not think we will be visiting again however, not with the doggies at least.

The hide is a great place for watching the birds on the lake. So peaceful and calming for the mind it's helped make me a budding twitcher. Nice warm place out of the wind and rain open from around 8.30am until dusk

Really excited about the possibilities that there are here. We popped in as a family for breakfast and left buzzing with possibilities. The boys want to bring their bikes and the girls want to bring their ponies. It isn't the best cafe as it's safe prepared, pre-packaged sandwiches, panini's and tray baked cakes however the quality of the coffee was great. I had bacon, brie and cranberry panini it was very tasty. Then a slice of beetroot and date chocolate brownie, it was rich, lovely and moist.

Hicks lodge is the perfect place for a family bike ride. There are trails for every ability. There is a cafe and a play area at the visitor center. Don't forget to do the super worm activity trail if you have young children. All in all a nice day out. Only down side is that the car park can fill up quickly so get there early.

Brilliant few hours spent cycling the different routes around Hicks Lodge. We completed the yellow and green trails as a family. Lots of lovely places to stop for a picnic.

Fabulous place for a fairly level stroll on dry fine path or for more strenuous exercise either walking or cycling. Marked trails to follow. Cycle hire and maintenance available on site. Cafe available for outdoor consumption. Toilet closes when cafe closes though site often open later. Parking by the hour, slightly expensive.

Great place for all the family and also very wheel chair and mobility scooter friendly . Lovely lake with lots of wildlife upon it. Could do with some more benches for you to stop and sit and enjoy the areas. Toilets were clean and there is a decent cafe. £2 for an hour , £6 for the day or if you want a years pass it's £40 .
