I recently took part in an Introduction To Darkroom Practice" workshop. I can really strongly recommend this place to anyone who's interested in developing and printing analog prints from black and white film negatives.Verdi (our tutor for the sessions) was great - she was really patient and clear at explaining the whole process and introducing us to the great facilities they have at Darkroom London. We were given some good tips and on-going help with the prints we were working on and were provided with a handout we could take away for our own reference when making prints ourselves.I really enjoyed the workshop sessions and was pleased with the prints I came home with. I'm already looking forward to booking a session again soon to develop some more of my prints. Thanks again Verdi and everyone involved in Darkroom London for such a great facility and helping keep analog photography alive!"

I attended an introduction to the Darkroom over two evening sessions. It was time well spent with Verdi and Phil. Over the two evening sessions I learnt about film processing and printing B+W film. Both instructors explained things clearly, and both gave a lot of insights into the technical and creative aspects of developing and printing. This is a really good way step into test the waters of this side of photography, and, at least in my case, I walked away with a clear understanding of how the photographic process works beyond pressing the camera's shutter button. It also gave me a good flavour of the potential creativity that can be applied throughout the process. Once I have taken a few more rolls of film, I'll likely become a member of The Darkroom and put this newly found knowledge to work.

The Introduction to Camera and Darkroom workshop is a truly great experience! I had a film camera for over a year but never knew how to use it properly. Phil is an extremely knowledgeable teacher and was able to give detailed guidance on how to use both the camera and the darkroom (+ great materials to take home with us), I am very excited to join the darkroom membership when I come back to London!

I did one of the introductory courses at darkroom and it was fantastic; Phil is a patient, knowledgable and enthusiastic teacher, and you'll be sure to learn a lot from him and have fun along the way. The darkroom is really well equipped, every detail has been thought of - would recommend the darkroom and the courses available very highly!

I recently took the Film Processing and Experimental Printing courses at London Darkroom, both of which were wonderful. The tutors (Phil and Tara) are knowledgeable, patient and enthusiastic, and the learning content delivered at just the right pace. The premises are in a lovely part of Camden, with lots of natural light (darkroom aside!) and space to move around, making it a great space to spend a few hours or a day. There's an amazing range of enlargers, and an eclectic mini-library of vintage analogue photography books and magazines. The induction was very helpful to work out where everything is and how to make prints, however there is always someone on hand to ask for help. I've already signed up for further sessions in the darkroom, and look forward to them :-)

I've done a few photographic courses before but I can confidently say this one was my favourite. Phil's knowledge is extremely comprehensive and he was patient and thorough in his teachings. I learnt so much, and am so excited about getting back into the darkroom!

Introduction to Film Photography: 2-day courseFirst time printing my own b&w film in a darkroom and could not have chosen a better environment. Philip Grey is absolutely the best tutor one would want to teach everything needed to know about b&w film photography and more. No favouritism or belittlement of effort. Phil encourages you to ask questions and learn from your mistakes. Phil is always willing to put the kettle on and make tea/coffee and share a digestive or two. As a newbie, there is such a lot of information to take in about the developing process. However, Phil's vast knowledge and patience, created a nurturing learning space which I greatly appreciated.

Introduction To Darkroom PracticePhil is an excellent and very welcoming teacher, I took this course as a refresher after not developing or printing since leaving school and I have to admit that I probably learnt more from Phil than I did as a student. The small size of the course meant all of us came away with good results and having learned enough to be confident to continue.I would certainly recommend this course to anyone and will be going back myself in the future.
