Mears Family Funerals Biggin Hill

Mears helped us through a very difficult time. They explained what needed to be done,when and how. They kept us informed and were always at the end of the phone whenever we had any queries. On the day they were very professional and everything ran to the timings as arranged.

Thank you so much to Lucy for the kindness and care given to me when dealing with my dad’s non-attended cremation. Expert, informative and understanding, nothing was too much trouble. This is the 2nd time we have used your services and would definitely recommend.

Husband’s Funeral – by Kathleen Hooper 17-05-2022Last week we used Mears Family Funerals, Biggin Hill Branch, for my husband’s funeral. Although a sad occasion, it could not have been a more perfect day.Lucy Johnson, the branch manager, is a truly caring and compassionate individual, who dealt with us in a sympathetic and yet very professional manner. Nothing was too much trouble, even changing the service sheet umpteen times. She is a truly excellent face for the company.From the start, when the two chaps, Craig & Marek, took my husband’s body from the house, they showed kindness and consideration.Also need to say the celebrant, James Huntington, is such a lovely man, who took the time to listen and understand who my husband was and his life. This allowed him to do a very moving service at the graveside and impressed everyone.And of course Steve and the team who came with the hearse and limousine, to take us on the long journey to West London.Attention to detail at all stages was paramount, with nothing missed. They are such professional undertakers, with a staff to be utterly proud of.

Very pleased with the service I received when arranging my wife's funeral. Lucy, in the Biggin Hill office, was friendly, kind, considerate and very helpful explaining the options and costs and also other things that I needed to consider, such as the type of service, decoration of the coffin, order of service and visual tribute. On the day of the funeral the staff accompanying the hearse and limousine ensured that everything went without a hitch. Overall the service offered by Mears was excellent.

During one of the hardest times in your life, mears were amazing, very compassion and caring. Service we received was great, right from the first meeting to the end of the service they were there with kind words, helpful staff and lovely service. Would highly recommend them to anyone. My sister and I used Mears in Biggin Hill for the funeral of both our parents, as we had a joint funeral. Lucy was very professional and knowledgeable, and nothing was too much trouble. Lucy helped us to arrange a beautiful funeral for both of them, and James the celebrant who conducted the service included everything we wanted, to recall their lives together, and all the memories.

We recently “had” to use Mears Family Funerals, not because we wanted to, but because another family member had previously said to the owners (his friends) that they would use them. Our family member who passed away in February had stated she wanted to use an alternative funeral director, as we had used them last year and they were amazing. Unfortunately, her request was not listened to by the other family member.All that aside our experience with Mears wasn’t the greatest!!We were told firstly we couldn’t visit until the day before the funeral, as they don’t hold the people that have passed on site in their establishment, they were in fact held down the road in a storage warehouse by Biggin Hill airport and would have to be transported back to Mears Shop in Biggin Hill, we were shocked that the whole reason the other family member wanted to use his said friends business was because he wanted her to go to someone he knew!!! How ridiculous because as it turns out she wasn’t with the friends at all, she was in a storage warehouse!!We had advised Mears that we were awaiting cheques from the life insurance to arrive to pay the balance. Unfortunately, the first cheques that were sent would have been cleared and paid to Mears in plenty of time, had the insurance company spelt the name of the executor correctly. So, this put us behind schedule of the final balance being paid one week before the cremation. We kept in touch with Mears explaining this several times. The cheques finally arrived and were set to clear on the day of the funeral, which again we informed Mears of. However, the day before the funeral Mears rang us late afternoon, demanding the funeral balance, saying that a contract had been signed agreeing to payment being made one week prior to funeral. This phone call was very upsetting as we had kept them informed the whole way, we had already paid over half of the balance and through no fault of our own an error had been made by Royal London, for which we were having to await newly printed cheques.Lucy a member of staff at Mears made 3 phone calls and 3 emails, demanding the money, even though we had kept Mears in touch informing them of the cheque situation. Lucy had each time replied to us “thanks for letting us know”, and then emailing a separate email asking for the money!The balance was paid to Mears first thing in the morning before our family member was placed in the hearse. Not one jot of compassion or understanding from Mears, just the “where’s our money!” just what you need more stress and pressure when going through such a sad and stressful time anyway, after losing a close family member.

I just wanted to say a big thank you for the personal service we received from Lisa, Natalie, Grant and his team, before, during and after my Dad's cremation. It made a challenging time, really special and memorable, thank you from Sarah Lenihan and family.

Just used Mears, Biggin Hill branch, for my mother’s funeral. Branch manager Lucy was a wonderful caring person who looked after us with sympathy and understanding. Indeed on the day all the staff were excellent and everything went smoothly. Facilities, cars etc were top notch. Thank you all.
