A magical Record Shop where you seek and you shall find... Dougy has been running this place for almost 40 years. He knows his music, he knows his records and he has his own way of doing things. Some people don't like the fact that you cannot browse, but there are so many records inside that this is simply not practical. Simply gave Doug a list, allow him time to rummage and he will emerge with a stack of records that you want, all in great condition and at very decent prices. Went twice with my two teenagers and we each left with a stack 'o wax. GO TO THIS SHOP

I visited Backbeat records and the owner is extremely rude. He is just absolutely full of himself. First off I tried to enter the store which you can’t as it’s basically just a storage unit for all of his vinyl. He asked me what I was looking for I said “80s records”, he went in to the shop and picked out The Seagulls, which I said that I wasn’t looking for. Then my friend reminded me of a 90s band that I was looking for and I asked him for it. He replied back with an attitude saying that they were 90s which I obviously knew as I wanted the bands vinyl. He said that I was looking for 80s not 90s, again trying to belittle me in-front of his dopey friend who was working with him.I was only in Edinburgh for the day for the Fringe and I would not recommend that vinyl shop to anyone. He asks you to write a list of vinyl that your looking for so he can charge whatever he wants for them, probably half of the vinyl are scratched and not even worth looking at.

My new favourite record shop!Most places I go to for records never have what I am looking for but this was perfect for getting me exactly what I wanted. Very good price and all records in good condition. Dougie is really helpful and friendly. I will definitely be back.Strongly recommend a visit here

Worth going to visit just for the chat and anecdotes! Very knowledgeable, honest and comes up with great suggestions. A gem!

Went in looking for records from my favourite band and had a lovely experience at this place! Dougie was quite personable and very attentive. Told him the band I was looking for and he popped out of his store with all he had of them for me to look through and told me he could find anything I wanted if I put in a request! Very reasonable prices and looking forward to becoming a steady customer.

What a gem of a record store! Go with a list or a rough idea what you're looking for. The owner is a lovely guy & very helpful. I'd highly recommend a wee visit here. Will be back again soon!

This place is a real treasure trove! Lots of junk, but underneath it are thousands of great records. The RUSH album I bought there is in brilliant condition. Not enough space to browse - but if you know what you're after (an album, an artist, or a genre), the owner is a fountain of knowledge and very helpful. The chaos adds to the charm!
