The Punch Bowl
Not had a bad meal here in 20 years, last time was abit dicey but today was a nail in the coffin. Steak £24 1cm thick, mostly gristle… small portion.Kids burgers were burnt neither would eat. Nice chap replaced. But won’t go again… very disappointed.

Excellent meal, decent price! Friendly staff. There was a temporary issue with the draught so I can’t comment on the beers. Ladies toilets were also closed so the men’s were being used as unisex temporarily, meaning no urinals. Recommend though as food was decent. Oh, and it is NOT a Wetherspoons!!

Just popped in on my walk today. Was blown away by the spectacular lunch I enjoyed - the lamb shank shepherds pie was divine. Special thanks to chefs Fran & Ash. Brilliant pie & cheers Casey for your warm welcome. Highly recommend.

My favourite pub in York. Well worth a visit.And remember it's not a wetherspoons!" As the sign says near the front door. There is a wetherspoons called The Punchbowl but that's outside the city walls near the train station"

Just fantastic! Really tasty, quality food for a fair price in the centre of York. We had the duck croquettes starter, followed by the Wild Boar & Chorizo pie, and the Chicken & Oyster Mushroom pie - all so delicious, rich and full of flavour. Staff are all lovely and the pub itself is traditional and cosy, yet spacious - plenty of seating available.

A days Christmas shopping in York and this place is just what we needed. We both had Beef shin and brisket pie with buttery mash and carrots. It did not disappoint, one of the best pies I have tasted. We will definitely return.Can I make one small suggestion and this is not a complaint. I noticed when giving out condiment boxes, knives and forks are pointed up over. Through work experience this has proved to be quite dangerous,

Beautiful pub in the heart of York. Good selection of real ales , all of a high standard. The food is reasonably priced and well cooked and presented. Staff smart and attentive. Great Nichollsons pub
