With a view out over the ocean and the setting sun , the Bristol bar is the perfect place to relax and watch the sun go down. Visited several times but this was the first time we've eaten there. Great service and excellent food. Two of us had the special - Salmon, holandaise sauce, new potatoes and asparagus - fabulous.

Went for Sunday lunch, The team were great and the food was great , sort of.My wife had the Fish pie which she said was fantastic as were the accompanying vegetables. How ever I had the Roast Beef which was promoted as medium rare. It was more rare than medium. The real let down however was the gravy. It was thin, wishy-washy, and everything on the plate was swimming in it. Therefore the beautiful crispy bottom roast potatoes were soggy and the meat was underwater".An easy fix would be to serve the gravy separately and "reduce it" and by doing so make it it thicker. This would lift the meal dramatically

AVOIDWhilst previously I had given a good rating when I went solo to test out this venue for my birthday party, I changed my review based on the following.Booked my birthday party here and was expecting 5 guests to join me.On personally arriving ten mins early, which I thought was good manners, I told the manager/director, Simon Lawley, that there'd only be 4 guests as one couldn't make it as her father was ill. I got the response Well I wish people would ring & tell us as I have setup all the tables!". Keep in mind it would have been the same size table anyways. So this was a great way to be greeted on my birthday.Secondly

We have eaten here a number of times for special occasions and the food has always been very good. The location is striking with lovely views over the coast and it has a traditional bar/pub feel. The staff are always attentive, even if the manager can be a little abrupt on the phone, but the overall experience is very good.

Dogs welcome, classic feel but cleaner than most public houses. Shepherd's Pie is delicious, portions are huge, prices only slightly high, beers cold or warm as appropriate, staff is smiley and quite fetching, imo.

I will never go to this place again!!!!The Food and service were good and initially we were having a lovely Family Sunday Lunch. My son lives in NYC so it was extra special that he could join us. We were just finishing our Roasts when my son noticed his wife and young son were calling him ( the phone was on silent) It was lovely to see my grandson and I was thrilled to say “Hi”. Within seconds a nasty, rude guy , presuming the Manager, stormed to our table and started shouting for us to turn off our phone,” didn’t we read the signs - NO phones!!!” !It was shocking and a totally over the top reaction. He was exceptionally rude and continued to rant about using our phone. It spoiled our experience and BTW there was no ‘no phones’ sign at our table. Grumpy old men with no manners should not be in Hospitality! Needless to say, we will not be returning to the Bristol Bar again - too many better places in Brighton to spend our money!!

Yikes where do I begin. I guess it all starts with the rude manager on his laptop who scolded us 6 times in the first 5 minutes of arriving. Everything from one member being a few minutes late to being scolded for lowering the blinds in the direct sunlight. Surely people have been blinded by the sun in the past. We don’t get a chance to ask if we could add birthday candles we brought on the dessert. While a great seafront location the manager didn’t take a liking to my party of 5. We ended up leaving in disgust. Fortunately pubs are plentiful in Kemptown.

Had a lovely meal in The Bristol bar with a stunning view of the sunset. All 4 of us felt the food was excellent. I can recommend the Lamb Shank with the house red. My said her fish pie was one of the best. Well worth a visit!

Went in for a drink, asked what non alcoholic beers they had, made my choice. Was asked would I like in a bottle or glass. I said bottle. Got the manager muttering something in the ear of the barman, then got a glass and put it on the side of my order. So, left quite quickly. I wouldn't of minded if they wanted for me to drink in a glass fine, just don't give a choice. Anyhow bit unnecessary so won't return.Oh, trolling your negative reviews, doesn't achieve anything. Amusingly makes you look a bit like some comical Basil Fawlty character.
