I have had good roast dinners before, I have had average roast dinners, this is the first time I have had an awful roast dinner. Everything microwaved to the point of inedibility: chewy, dry, bits of bone found in the turkey scratchings. I raised my complaint and it was dismissed by the youngstaff who clearly couldn't care less.Don't bother!

It is genuinely a shocking experience. We booked the Airbnb here. The place was stuck in the 1990s and very unclean with mould & damp in the bedrooms. Don't bother coming here. The food is also unbelievably average, undercooked, and flavourless.Following an issue with damage to my car in the car park, I tried to contact the owner. Who initially was good and offered to help after reporting the damage to her immediately. Other than that, just radio silence. If you like your car, don't drive and leave it here, as I fear you'll also be in the same position.Save your money and give another place your custom. This place doesn't deserve it.EDIT: following the owners slanderous comments: I did not ask for any compensation, simply of a refund due to the damage incurred. The professional who replace the tyre agreed that it could not have happened on the road as this could have caused a blowout. The damage could only have happened at car park speed. This did not spoil my weekend. Clearly the person writing this review does not know me at all. For them to cite I am full of Misery and disappointment" and that I am "Vengeful and full of hate and malice" and that am " miserable and vindictive" is quite frankly abhorrent to suggest such things from the limited interaction we have had. You cannot proclaim to know me and this a poor attempt at getting your own way from an opinion of my experience at your establishment. It is a shame you could not have responded in an adult and moreover professional way and attempted to contact me- you did have my details after all.Reviews are a funny things aren't they? I see no purpose or benefit in this context to mention previous experience I have had other than to try and justify your own actions and to make you feel as though I am in the wrong and am looking for fault. to simply copy over negative ones is very spiteful. This is an honest review in my own experience for your pub and professionalism. If you would like to have an adult conversation rather an take this slanderous approach "where millions can see" I would welcome the conversation.I hope we do speak to put this to bed and part on amicable terms."

Lovely little pub, great place to stop if you're visiting or passing through on your way to Manchester. Nice homemade food I had the bre and cranberry Wellington which was on the Specials. The staff were very kind and friendly. Thank you for making my visit.

Spent two nights here on the campsite, had a meal in the pub, super, relaxed & friendly, & food was amazing.Campsite just behind the pub, has 4 good size pitches on a relatively flat field. Little honesty shop which is a lovely touch, static caravan with two toilets & a shower would definitely come again.

Stayed nearby and came round for an afternoon drink, saw the menu and booked a table. Then, went back and started reading the reviews on here, getting a dreadful feeling we had made a bad choice.....How wrong we were.Staff - excellent, asked if we were OK and did not bother us mid meal, but waited until after we had finished eating. Anything we asked for (mustard for example), was brought to the table very quickly. During the whole evening they were polite and you felt they were making sure we had a good time and nothing was a chore for them.Food - excellent. We had the pie for mains with the chips and peas, followed by a desert. Mains, plate was really hot, all food excellently cooked and really tasty. Desert, plates were cold and once again very professionally presented deserts.Atmosphere- always pleasant and welcoming and cannot understand some of the previous comments on here. Either we picked a lucky day (dont think so), or others must just like to complain a lot.Would I recommend it? Without hesitation, YES, I would.Do I know any of the staff there? No, I don't, just an honest review for a fabulous evening.

Called in to the Devonshire Arms this evening as a friend and I were in the area for a driving weekend. The atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming and we were hungry so opted for the home made beef and ale pie in addition to our beers. The pie with chips peas and gravy was a very ample portion and absolutely delicious. The landlady Fiona was also gracious enough to provide us with a bottle of milk as where we were staying didn't have any.

A big thank you to the absolutely amazing, beautiful and generous landlady. My son and I were stranded overnight last Thursday along with many Man Utd supporters during the treacherous, snow, blizzard conditions. The pub door was opened for us at 6am. Hot cups of tea was a huge comfort. Can’t thank you enough for your kindness xx

Popped in for a late Sunday lunch just on spec and was very glad we did. I last ate here many years ago when it was rented out and left a lot to be desired. Since then the owners have obviously worked hard to restore their reputation. From the outside or looks nothing special but inside is tasteful and cosy with the option of sitting in a sheltered area round the back. The service could not have been more friendly and the landlady obviously genuinely cares making very sure everything is to your liking and you are happy without being pushy or annoying. There is plenty of food, it's tasty and very well presented. We will certainly be eating here again soon.
