I trusted these so called specialists to do an oil change on my Audi RS3. They overfilled the engine oil by approx 1.3 litres! Lucky I checked the oil level the next day otherwise this could have resulted in a very costly repair. They didn't have the decency to apologise and assured me the excessive oil would just burn away." Any real engineer can explain what problems this could have caused. I would seriously avoid having any level of work carried out at this garage."

My wife was visiting relatives when the car broke down. She took the car to Peter Ellam motors and the care, speed and attention given was first class. The staff couldn't have been nicer. She would certainly recommend this garage.

Audi A2 clutch replaced Monday, newly fitted clutch slipped. PE insisted there may be a problem with the gearbox although they couldn't explain why, despite my reasoning that it didn't slip prior to 'fix'. Left it with them. Tuesday still doubted the gearbox issue, was advised the best option was to investigate. Cost to remove gearbox again £165+VAT which they would split. The gearbox examination I would have to pay £50+VAT.Friday they called. Car was ready to go.They had sent the box to a second expert as the first could find no problem. Second agreed, no issue. Turned out the clutch they had fitted was faulty. When I explained I may be at the shop a little after they closed because I was walking from work 4 miles away, the manager suggested I walk faster.They had my car 4 days unnecessarily, insisted on a fault I told them didn't exist, they didn't even refit the speedometer cable first time around.No apology, no offer of recompense, no customer service.Would give no stars were that possible.

Dropped my wife's car off for an MOT & Service. More than happy with the service I received, and at a good price too! Would recommend to others! Kinda knew I would be pleased given the mechanic doing the works had more certificates than I've had hot dinners!

My wife took her mk6 VW Golf GTI to Peter Ellams after the timing chain tensioner failed. After 10 days we had a call to say that the car was fixed and ready for collection. During the call we were told that the car was running great except the engine warning light was coming on after a period of time. We paid Ellams £1400 for the work they had completed and took the car away with no confidence in the work they had done based on their insistence that the pistons were damaged following a compression test.The car was not fixed!! It had no power and missfired badly and stank of petrol.To their credit the proprietor offerd to meet some of the cost of rebuilding the bottom end of the engine but I politely declined citing my lack of confidence in their work.The car went to a Vw garage and it became apparent very quickly that things weren’t right!!The injector seals hadn’t been replaced and fuel was leaking hence the strong smell if petrol.After being told that only genuine parts had been used it was found thatspurious cylinder head bolts had been used.The cause of the low compression was found to be a bent inlet camshaft which should have been identified as part of the engine taredown inspection.So after paying Ellams £1400 we had to pay another £1900 to have the car fixed which we wouldn’t have had to do if they had done their job with due diligence.When i told Ellams about the bent camshaft they blamed Browns of Halifax who carried out the cylinder head repair. The cylinder head repair was found to have been done to a high standard by an independent engineer.In summary this has been THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY MOTORING CAREER. We ended up paying twice for a simple repair in total it cost me £3300!!!!

Lloyd is a very good mechanic. He had plenty of time when discussing the issue of our car and kept us up to date with the progress of diagnosis and eventually the repair. Will definitely be using again and would recommend beyond main dealers.

I've been using Peter Ellam's for several years and they've looked after a lot of Skoda's. Service is consistently excellent, great value for money and very friendly. Lloyd is great and always happy to explain or discuss.
