Many thax to Southampton council workers , they are top guys who treat the area with the upmost respect , when having to open graves or excavate for new internments . Thank you

I live within walking distance of this lovely graveyard. Despite being next to the M27 and Southampton Airport it is so peaceful. Everyone is very respectful of each other in this space and it is lovely whether visiting the resting place of a loved one or just taking a stroll (in all seasons). You can plane spot from the far end where there are not yet any graves and, if you are lucky, you will see the family of deer that live there (be warned...don't take real flowers for your loved ones' grave if you don't want them eaten by said deer).Out the back of the cemetery, behind the chapel and house, is the memorial garden. This was part of the old crematorium that closed a number of years ago when the M27 was built. The top soil was moved, section by section, to the new location out of respect to those whose ashes are scattered there. You can even visit the memorial room with the book of remembrance and the memorial to those who died when the Spitfire works were bombed on 11 Sept 1940. Not many people know this is there, but it is worth popping over if you are visiting. There are some fascinating features in the graveyard, such as the original water taps from the turn of the 20th century, which are like a work of art in themselves.

Heartbroken during my latest visit. The state of the place was the worst I had ever seen it. Do grounds people actually work here?
