Great Northern Greenway
Originally the Great Northern Railway Derby Extension, locally known as the Friargate Line dating from the mid 1800s, it closed permanently in 1968 becoming a test bed before closing completely some years later. The platform and building foundations are still present at the former Breadsall station. It forms part of the National cycle network and is open to cyclists, walkers and horse riders... although it isn't used that much by anyone to be honest. The whole route is fairly well paved and easy going with some absolutely superb views over the surrounding area, it's hard to believe your so close to the city. The signs and information boards really need replacing though.
