Dobbies Garden Centre Northampton

Great place. Got myself some fish, frogs and plants.

Visited Dobbies Northampton exactly 1 year apart & the difference between the 2 visits was night & day.The first visit in Aug 2022 was of a nice local well stocked garden centre & a nice cafe.Fast forward to Aug 2023 & what a complete contrast. The shelves all looked slightly thin on stock & the cafe was borderline un-hygienic. The table we sat at had heavily soiled seat cushions as did several other seats that we saw when we left. There were used napkins stuffed in with the menus on the table, & the staff all seemed very unhappy with other colleagues whilst we waited for our tea & cake.All together we were really disappointed since we had a positive experience 12 months prior.

It's a lovely garden centre. Has many many great quality plants, flowers, shrubs and anything your garden needs. Definitely recommend to visit if you haven't been there.Prices can be on a high side, but you know what you get.Cafe is always busy, so it won't I'll just be just pop for a quick coffee.

Good garden centre and lovely festive afternoon tea.

Had the Macaroni Cheese in the restaurant. Really good. Pleasant place to browse and buy plants. Plants are well looked after. Good variety for both indoors and outdoors.On the downside. No hooks in the toilet cubicles to hang your handbag. Not good when the floor is wet.

Always a pleasure to go to Dobbies. Lovely gift selection but this time we required something specific.We asked a very friendly member of staff and she took us to the display we required.Very professional and helpful.We had called at B&Q first to buy this item but they had been put away so B&Q take a leaf out of Dobbies book.

I don’t leave a 1 star review lightly.We have been coming here with the kids 4-5 times a month and the queue has constantly been right out of the seating area at about 50 people deep.This morning one of the coffee machines is out of order so queuing is taking roughly 25 minutes.It’s consistently understaffed with usually two older ladies on the till doing the drinks food orders, preparing cups trays etc etc.With just one more staff member per till you could easily improve the speed of the queue.They could easily get more people around they drinks machines but instead choose to have one person manning it.It needs improving. Dobbies should be fortunate their customers are patient.

Every year I love going Christmas shopping but no where compares to a Dobbies Christmas. Not only do they have wonderful items relating to Christmas but other items relating to the whole Holiday. Staff were extra friendly which is always a bonus ! Even helped me understand how to best look after a plant … which I need!

Much changed inside, cafe now much larger with more permanent demarcation. The rest of the centre now much neater and roomier thanks to getting rid of some of the previous concessions. Not many people there when we visited though so remains to be seen if the improvements are successful.

It's more about Christmas tack and expensive café than gardening and nice plants. Lots of garden type stuff to purchase, but silly expensive for much of it. Parking needs more space to get purchased goods, plants, compost bags etc. in to the car. Staff are good if you need help... Finding one will be a challenge though. Finding someone who knows anything about plants is nigh on impossible... If you need help you'll need to queue in line at the till... Usually manned by only one person so expect long queues to pay. Typical of the modern Garden Centre... Its more about moving cash from your purse/wallet into their tills than service, quality or experience. Waitrose right next door which may explain their customer targeting.
