The Old Ship Hotel
The staff were all helpful and courteous and the location great. The room was spacious and clean. The whole hotel is a little shabby, quite a colourful array of carpeting, dented and chipped woodwork. However it is half the price of other seafront hotels and was perfectly good for a night away.

Lovely Lewis greeted us at reception. He was friendly, polite and helpful and smartly dressed. We went to our comfortable spacious room (122) which was well lit and had everything we needed in it. Dinner was served from 6pm and we mentioned to the waiter that we didn’t have too much time as we had to leave at 6.50 latest. So he got things moving for us. Our meal was lovely, tasty and hot. On our return that evening we slept in a super clean, large sumptuous bed and slept like logs. We had a good view of the sunset before having dinner and a nice sea-view. In the morning we had breakfast, again very tasty and served by lovely staff. The Old Ship is a great building with character and maintained well, very clean too. Amenities all close by. Well done to all the staff and behind the scene workers.

Stayed at this hotel for one night, 23rd September 2023 and had an absolutely awful stay.We made our booking for my partner and I and our infant who is 2 months old. The hotel placed us in a room on the second floor right at the back of the hotel where we had to carry the pram up lots of small clusters of steps to get to our room, also battling with doors.I requested to move rooms due to the impracticality of the room but was told that because we had entered the room and they didn’t have the cleaning staff to clean it, they could not offer us an alternative room - which was ridiculous given our circumstances. We were offered the assistance of staff members to assist carrying our buggy up the stairs. Both lifts in the hotel then broke so we then had to carry our pram and infant up two flights of stairs, as well as the small cluster of stairs to get to our room. The room itself was not great. There was no fridge - not ideal for a breastfeeding mum who expresses. The hot water took ages to come through on the taps, albeit they have a sign in the bathroom stating this, reason being that the building is old.The room was absolutely freezing, to the point where I had to ring reception in the middle of the night to complain, we were offered a small portable heater. But a cold room was not acceptable especially when we had our baby with us.Overall the staff tried to be accommodating, but think they really could have assisted us and our needs further by providing us with a ground floor and warm room. Will not be booking this hotel ever again and would definitely not recommend it to my friends or family. And would advise anyone travelling with a young baby to avoid, or to request a ground floor room upon booking.

I think this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. It's so beautiful, cosy and the staff and service is out of this world. They can't do enough for you. The food is brilliant, so tasty and dinner is the same as a 5 start restaurant in the West end, if not better. The location is great just opposite the seafront between the pier and i360.We had the Brighton Rocks package from the hotel, 2 nights stay, breakfast, welcome drink and 3 course dinner on the first night and tickets to the i360. It was well worth the money. The staff are so helpful, from the check in desk to the staff restaurant, bar, they look after you so well. There is so much history here, even has Winston Churchill chair that he bought with him and left at the hotel all those years ago. It's lovely sitting in the bar by the window having a drink thinking of all the people that were here before you.The breakfast is amazing you have so much there it is all set out well. The cooked breakfast is amazing has everything freshly cooked and so tasty. The 3 course dinner was amazing the waitress was so helpful choosing what we wanted the mussels were the best I ever had, the butter sauce was so tasty. The main course was cooked so well and the sweet was so plentiful. The rooms are very spacious with a large comfortable bed, two chairs and a table so you sit looking out at the seafront. With coffee machine, kettle, hairdryer, iron ironing board, hairdryer and dressing gowns.I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone.

A beautiful hotel in prime beachfront at Brighton. I’m not sure what others were complaining about with the rooms. They’re not as up to date as a chain hotel would be, but the charming decor and classic beach hotel vibes more than made up for that. The service was excellent and accommodating, and the breakfast was good the next morning. Highly recommended.

We had a fantastic stay at the Old Ship hotel. We booked a basic double room which cost us £150 for 2 nights and despite all the negative reviews on here, we were pleasantly surprised. The room had a side sea view and double glazing windows. It was a very cold and windy December day but the room was cosy and warm all the time. There was a hairdryer, an ironing board and an iron, loads of storage space and hanging in the wardrobe. The bed was enormous and we had the best nigh sleep in it. The bathroom had a bath and a massive lit mirror. It was clean and spacious. There was a heated towel rack, which was an added bonus. The hotel has got great character, it is also clean, and feels inviting. Winston Churchill's chair is a marvellous feature that adds to the grand interior. The bar lobby is huge and has a pool table with lots of seating sea-view areas. The staff were very attentive and helpful and the cleaners were brilliant at tidying and cleaning our room. The location of the Old Ship is superb, close to everything you need - shops, bars, restaurants, the beach, all within walking distance. We arrived almost 2 hours earlier than the check-in time and our room was ready and waiting for us.Check-out was at 11am but we could leave our bags at reception for longer. We had the most amazing time staying at this hotel and we would definitely return here. I highly recommend it.

Better then we expected after reading reviews! So the reality of this Hotel is it’s old and needs paint. Some halls do smell a bit. If that’s a problem for you then go else where. Once we settled in - We found it warm and charming. Was our room clean? Yes!We were in room 107. It was great for us.The bar was lovely… get a jug of pimms! The staff was efficient- not overly friendly- but who cares they did there job well.We got a fabulous deal through Agoda. We were here in November so outside noise wasn’t an issue.

A very shabby hotel. It is very old but it could still be clean, it is not.my room had mould on the ceiling in the bathroom, the tap was loose and moved when it was turned on, the shower controls had gunge on them, the carpet was stained, the windows were very dirty, the furnishings were very worn, the reception area was dingy and the carpet there was stuck in parts with black masking tape. The person I travelled with had a mouse in her room. I would never stay there again. The staff in the bar and restaurant were lovely. The hotel needs a good clean from top to bottom.

I visited this hotel for an awards ceremony at another hotel. What a fantastic hotel. Service was top notch love the decor. The hotel has a vintage style. All the staff where polite the breakfast was out of this world. I would stay at this hotel again. Their pet friendly attitude blown me away more hotels need to have this attitude. I would give this hotel more than five stars.
