Thacka Beck Nature Reserve
Thacka Reserve is nice little oasis of calm in the bustling town of Penrith! It is part of the flood defences and creates a pond and wetlands for birds animals and plants, I often see Deer first thing in the mornings and the grasslands are usually home for 6 old English cows ( Belted Galloways presently)It lays beside the railway line so you can also watch the different types of trains coming and going through! This in no way detracts from the reserve itself.

Too many selfish folk let dogs off so they don't have to pick up after them and the paths are beginning the yearly overgrowth. Otherwise not a bad area for a walk.

A nice little reserve right beside an industrial estate. Easy walking distance from town centre. Plenty of seating. No entry fee. Dogs welcome.

Great place for a social outing with your dog. Be sure to clean up after it though. Walk can be extended by walking north on footpath to Caterlan with return on track on other side of motorway but watch out for livestock...

Good for birds. Spoilt by selfish dogwalkers not cleaning up after their dogs. Also, dogwalkers not following the signage to keep dogs on a lead.Disagree strongly with one reviewer who thinks nettles should be cut back and tidied up! It's a nature reserve, not a garden!!
