I'd actually ventured to Mapledurham due to it being famously used for the setting of 1976's 'The Eagle has Landed'. However, even if you're not a film buff, the village and church are magnificently atmospheric in their own right - truly a time capsule of more sedate times. If you're someone who likes to read historic gravestones, the churchyard has plenty - the oldest I found dated back to 1828, though I'm sure there's older. Some fine pieces of English history present in this scenic little settlement on the banks of the Thames. :)

On this occasion I just sat down in the churchyard for a drink and snack to eat on a bike ride. A lovely peaceful place. I have been in the church before and found it peaceful and interesting.

10/10 saw Michael Caine here... rather weirded out by a few folk with plastic guns dressed in German uniforms though - barring that a good experience

Great bit of film history. Many will know that this was the main filming location for the classic Michael Caine movie “The Eagle has Landed”. Amazing to see it now & compare with stills from the film. Don’t expect to see the pub & shops though. They were all props.

This offers much more than the location setting for The eagle has landed. A C of E church with an interesting history. Including a Catholic aisle.
