Yugo The Courtrooms - Student Accomodation

I've lived in Bristol for 5 years and I'd like to share some of my opinions on this student accommodation.1. Be cautious when you choose a newly built building, it was my mistake this year. Why? because according to the staff here we can only find out problems when people move in". Unless you have a lot time argue for yourself and chasing people to fix your room

I lived at The Courtrooms during my 6 month exchange and it was one of the best decisions I made! As a student, choosing where I was going to live was important to me because it translated into choosing where I would spend most of my hours (studying, hanging out with my roommates and friends, or just being home"). Honestly

Living here for the almost three months now, and I can proudly say that I couldn't ask for more! As a student, there are so many doubts, specially incase you are international, about the place you ll be spending the maximum time after the university hours.It's home away from home! The staff is extremely helpful and approachable! They make you feel comfortable , the best they can. The flats are good, well equipped too.I am glad I made the decision of choosing The Courtrooms for my stay at Bristol !Cheers to The Studeng Housing Company and The Courtrooms!

The building and the rooms are a nice size, the kitchens are really spacious and have plenty of appliances to go around! All the staff are so kind and take a lot of time to arrange events that would interest everyone! It’s been great so far and close to everything within the city - it’s a really good place!

Fire alarms activate all the time, and when they do, there will be no hit water. It has been more than 8 hours and nobody fixed it. Thank you for cold showers and climbing up the stairs.

The courtrooms is a very clean and friendly place to live! The staff is all super helpful and always around if you have any issues. They are very organized with mail and social activities. Overall it is one of the best places to live in Bristol!

It’s been an… interesting year at the Courtrooms, but one I enjoyed nevertheless.The staff are very nice and friendly, especially the service/maintenance people and the courtrooms offers plenty of activities throughout the year. The location is just perfect and the building itself is modern new, clean (given that your flat mates aren’t absolute swines) and everything works. The price is ok/average for what it is.Unfortunately, there are some major downsides to living here:-It’s so bloo’y hot that I didn’t even close my window once till early November. Even then I often kept it open. The ventilation is horrible (apparently due to modern fire safety standards) and the windows only barely open to “prevent suicide attempts”. Also, bring earplugs, since the construction sounds are pretty bad with the windows open.-The alarms. Oh, boy! I lived on the top floor and the elevators don’t work when it goes off. It’s the alarm in the bottom floor hallway that is super sensitive. They’ve known this for over 2 years. What did they do about it? Absolutely nothing! :) Here’s a tip I’ve gotten: If the alarm stays on for longer than 30 seconds, only then do you need to come down. Nice for when it frequently goes off during the night.-Literally all the 5 star reviews (9 of them) from around December 2017 are from people who got a chocolate Christmas advent calendar for giving the review. This is bribery and is actually an illegal practice… Without these fake reviews the rating would only be a 3.2 as of 10/2018.-Your deposit is gone. Don’t even bother. I cleaned the whole place professionally to a much higher level than when I got it. Even asked Emily (who’s in charge of deposits/checking) specifically for a checkup to make sure it’s ok, she came, but wouldn’t agree and said “I’ll make the final decision”. Didn’t even get a penny. Emily is also the one that arranged the whole bribery thing. :(-Had a mystery flood in my room one day. My backpack with books were soaked, but I never could find the source. Placed tissues everywhere to spot it again, but never returned the whole year. Also, the wall paint is the cheapest paint in existence. DON’T TAPE ON IT! The paint will rip off in front of your eyes. This says something about the general quality of the building (or rather, the lack thereof). Friends also noted significant leaks in the building.-Many people say that the Courtrooms is one of the less social accommodations. I ended up making a few good friends, but I also had a flat mate who said on the first day she came, and I quote, “I do not like socializing”. That’s the only time I heard her talk. (And yes, of course I teased her all the time by saying hello! How are you? Lovely day today, innit?). Make of this what you will.However, despite these issues, I still had a great time at the courtrooms. Great staff, modern new and clean, but with some very nasty quirks that drop the rating significantly. There are (much) better alternatives for the same price with all the benefits and none of the drawbacks.

I lived in 5th floor, the room is very small. Smaller than most of the en-suite rooms offered by other company with similar price. It becomes very HOT from April and because of the building design there is no airflow even if you open your window as others have mentioned here. During my stay there were several times when they DON'T FIX THINGS on time, as if they know we will not have the energy to chase them all the time. The city centre location is also very NOISY if you left the window open, but it will be very hot if you close it. Also the regular construction site outside brings a lot of dust to my room everyday....all in all i think the advertisement of this place is so overrated and not worth the hype at all.

I would urge anyone thinking of living here to reconsider.Bike was stolen from the 'secure' bike storage facility. Multiple others had their bikes stolen here too. Even when they were told about this, The Courtrooms did not think to notify the other residents about this safety issue. I don't believe they care about student safety.

What a year at the Courtrooms..I would strongly warn any student against living here.If you love unbearable heat, a lack of ventilation, pervasive and persistent mould problems, roofs collapsing in, dust overload, frequent lift breakages, extortionate laundry costs, and constant smoke alarms, this is the place for you!I would not have actually made this review, and forgiven these minor" problems
