We spent two wonderful nights at The Royal Oak and loved it! It is a beautiful old pub with delicious food and drink. Our room was spacious and very well appointed. The staff was all friendly, kind and fun. Alexis was the best!

Came here for a weekend away with my partner and our 9mo puppy, and had the most amazing time! Originally booked to come earlier in the year but had to rearrange last minute, which the staff were super helpful with.Room was so lovely and homely, with one of the comfiest beds I’ve ever slept on, and the food in the restaurant was delicious. The biggest win for this place though was the staff, who were incredibly friendly and helpful, and were lovely and patient with our over-excited pup. Special shout out to manager Jamie who was a huge help when our pup was bouncing around at check in , and found us a last minute dinner slot on a busy Saturday night!Highly recommend for a weekend away, especially those with four-legged friends!

Had it not been for the promotional videos by James May we would never have known about The Royal Oak.The positives.Good size car park. (Lane leading to is a bit narrow for those with Sunday/ funday cars.)Nice pub, atmosphere and very helpful, friendly staff. The food served for both evening meal and breakfast was very good. Eating in the oak room is very pleasant. The bed in our room, excellent. The rainfall shower and the hot water / heating excellent. The negatives.First impressions of the accommodation is a very worn stair carpet and walls scuffed from people dragging bags. A narrow cluttered passageway that seems to be the office? Our room and en-suite wasn't clean. We were disturbed by other guests, dogs, and noisy bathroom extraction fans. This is not the fault of The Royal Oak or the owners, but it did affect the quality of our stay and sleep. The breakfast experience is poor. The food itself is fine, but the overall experience not so much.If nearby again we would visit for a drink and a meal, but not to stay. The accommodation is not good value for money, the bar and restaurant are reasonably priced.

The food is excellent, the service is outstanding and the staff are just wonderful to talk to. Really funny, couldn’t do more for you if you asked, and so very very kind. Stayed here on a quiet Sunday in November and had a wonderful time. Chris went out of his way to make sure I had a good experience despite being the only customer needing breakfast that morning. When dinner service was over it was fantastic to talk to the chefs at the bar. This is a brilliant place to eat, drink and rest, and I suggest you stop reading my review and book yourself a meal and a stay. The Royal Oak is one of my happy places, and I treasure every opportunity to visit here, so much so I’m travelling for the new years tasting menu. Please come here, you’ll love it.

Stopped off for lunch. It's a lovely pub in a lovely location. The food is really nice and not too expensive. Will be going back again soon!

My son and I had a wonderful vegetarian meal last night and the best sticky toffee pudding for dessert we'd ever tasted. Although there was only one option for vegetarians, it wasn't the usual drab mushroom risotto and the like. The chef had obviously put much thought into this dish, which resulted in an extremely flavoursome meal. We enjoyed it so much, we booked for Sunday lunch today before our return to London, which was equally delicious. 5 stars to the chef and the staff were lovely too. We'll be back.

We picked this place en route to family in Devon on a road trip and didn’t regret it one bit. The room was huge, comfortable with a nice view over the garden. The staff were all excellent and efficient, especially the tattooed guy working behind the bar who was next level efficient. The food was also very good indeed with great fish n chips and breakfast. Highly recommended!

Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. The food was absolutely amazing, everything was cooked to perfection, portion sizes were very good and the food itself was of excellent quality and tasted delicious. The service was also fantastic, the staff couldn't do enough for us and were very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be coming back here again in the future.

We had such a good time exploring the countryside and then coming to the Royal Oak for a night. It was warm, welcoming, comfortable, everything you want in a country pub with rooms. The room was so cosy with an enormously comfortable bed. The food was excellent and the service prompt polite and always friendly. The pub is run really well and is highly recommended.
