Castle Hill Iron Age Hillfort

Got shouted at for not sticking to the ‘foot path’. The sign is directed to the edge of the field, so I stuck to the edge as I thought that was the right thing to do.The ‘foot path’ runs through the centre of the fort, make sure you stick to it or else!!

It's on private land..

We parked by the church, walked to the hill fort, down to Enclosures, left to pope's copse then left back to the village. About three and half miles. No toilets or cafe. Fields, tracks and deer. Notices to stay on the footpath with dogs on lead, we didn't see any livestock.

A well preserved iron age hill fort, with spectacular views out towards the Cotswolds. Yes, it is on private land, but a public footpath runs right through it, and if you follow this out and up over the ramparts to the north you will be rewarded with the same incredible views that our ancestors saw, over two thousand years ago. That's got to be worth four stars in anyone's book.
