St. Helen's Well

went looking for the well had a problem trying to find it.( about 1 yeara go was not signed up ) will go again on a nice sunny day

Hard to find as it's about 20 metres South of the carriageway, directly opposite the footpath to RiverAlt. As with so many heritage features it requires ongoing maintenance.

This Historic Well was restored in Sefton Village, after years of lying in ruin. The well itself is thought to be 600 years old.Now covered with an engraved slab and surrounded by rails, the restoration is an improvement in safety as well as appearance.St Helen's Well was renowned for its icy waters which were especially good for people suffering from rheumatism, sprains, bruising and also nervous problems.It was probably a pre-Christian spring, that in the Middle Ages turned into a pilgrimage site, especially during the 14th century when the church was built close by.In pre-Reformation times it was used a lot, but later on and in more recent times it had become a wishing well.Not a lot to see but well worth looking, if you're in the area.

It's capped so it's just a bit of concrete surrounded by railings
