Went for a Sunday trail hike on the Chiltern route and came across this pub near the end. We decided to fill up with a roast after 4 hours of walking, and my partner and I each had the beef roast with shared sides of cauliflower cheese and stuffing. The main was really nice, gravy and beef slices could have been thicker. After the main, it took a while to get served. For dessert we each had the peach crumble, which was nice but lukewarm. My crumble contained, what I believe to be, a piece of plastic. It was hard and half the size of a pea. When flagged, the staff kindly got me another crumble and advised it was a piece of crystallised sugar - I didn't argue but disagree as it had 0 taste and definitely would have broken when I chomped down on it. When the new crumble came out, it was piping hot as I would have expected it to be and contained no plastic / crystallised sugar. The place itself was quite niche, random bits and bobs placed everywhere, low cushioned archways for people like me who hit their head, and a large outdoor area which I imagine is lovely in the sun.An ok experience marred by the dessert, plenty of other eatery's in the area should I ever do the walk again.

Lovely pub with great menu. Food has flair and creativity while being traditional. Come here for the Sunday roast and cauliflower cheese. Very attentive service. Historic location and cosy atmosphere.

Popped in for an early improptu Saturday lunch. First through the doors and Olivia gave us free reign over tables, so we plumped for by the fire. Just intended to go for mains - Supreme of Chicken with porcini mushroom and thyme sauce on a potato and onion rosti topped with spinach, tender and tasty, but I hd Sea Bream with samphire dill and prawn bisque amazing! Bream crispy skinned and perfectly cooked, and a lick your plate clean sauce, served on a dill potato cake. Would definitely have it again!Could not resist the Banofee Pavlova - truly next level! Light crisp shelled merigue with chewy inside, piled with banana creme topped with two spears of banana coated with shards brittle caramel and the whole thing swirled caramel sauce and dotted with lemon thyme/verbena? Divine but definitely a sharer despite its modest looking size! Olivia was the perfect host and we washed it all down with a large pot of Chamomile Tea. Can't wait to go again!

A group of us decided to have our Christmas Doo here this year - lovely 'proper' pub where drinkers are as welcome as diners. I love the local pub atmosphere, and the food was delicious. We booked a table for 7.30pm which wasn't available until 7.50pm, and the main course wasn't served until 10pm which did not bother me in the slightest (probably because I was drinking and having a fine time), although some of my teetotal friends weren't so content. Attentive staff, good real ale and lovely food, this place gets my seal of approval. Many thanks

We had the roast dinner which was delicious a lovely big Yorkshire pudding and plenty of meat and gravy if I'm honest I would have liked more vegetables, although the vegetables were beautifully cooked ,it was delightful and the staff were really lovely , courteous and very helpful. A great place for a delicious Sunday lunch

Really nice, good looking pub. However, if you're looking to go for dinner and don't eat meat, you'll be in for a surprise (even in 2022). Out of 8 'big plates' options, only one is vegetarian. Pretty poor compared to other local options. However, the bread, halloumi and chips were good!

Our first visit to a pub since lockdown eased for a proper meal and I wasn't disappointed. The service was excellent, as was the food and the staff very friendly. The bubble and squeak starter with perfect poached egg on top, beautiful and the beer battered cod, yummy.Garden is lovely and so is the interior. You could say that I had forgotten what it was like to go out and that's why I gave it 5 stars, NO I GAVE IT 5 STARS BECAUSE I COULDN'T FAULT ANY DETAIL. Excellent, see you again
