Ashfield Care Home

Excellent care by amazing staff.

In my opinion my mother was completely neglected whilst in this care home. Apparently only 2 incontinence pads were allowed per patient per day ( I had to provide pads for her) medical decisions were made without myself being consulted (even though I had full power of attorney due to my mother's dementia) she told my she was slapped in the face, and that the chocolates and gifts I sent were taken by the staff, I'll never know the truth as my mother had dementia, and the then manager said that this was not the case and he wouldn't allow his staff to behave like this. ( Also when my mother finally left this home 2 silver rings a silver necklace and a hairbrush was missing from her belongings, who can say what happened to them) This was during covid so my hands were pretty much tied to what I could do for her, I felt completely helpless and that I'd let her down. 2021 I finally got her out of there after months of phone calls and forms, I wanted her moved for her birthday, but the manager kept her from leaving until after. When she left Ashfield dhe was extremely underweight and unwell, I moved her into a care home near me , and was told it looked like she'd had a stroke as her arm wasn't moving well, and she was slumped to the side. Of course we'll never know whether she did or not, as it was too late to do the necessary tests. My mother only lived for 2 weeks after the move, I'll never know if this was preventable or not, I have my thoughts, but I'll never know. The one thing I am grateful for is, her last two weeks were in a care home with wonderful staff, she was happy and treated with the respect that she deserved. Unfortunately for me this gave a level of care to compare Ashfields to and I can confidently say, that they were significantly inadequate in every aspect of her care, from hygiene and diet to health management and communication with our family.
