Roots & Wings Child Day Care
When I heard Roots and Wings childcare was opening I was absolutely delighted to check it out since its really conveniently located next to town and my daughter's grandparents home.I had previously looked for a suitable nursery that could suit our lifestyle and family needs and that could be flexible to suit my work as well as being a space that I felt my daughter could thrive in.After seeing the advert on Facebook I immediately enquired and was keen to see if it would be a good fit. After speaking at length with Sally who was so excited to be starting this new venture and was more than happy to answer all my questions I felt like this could be the kind of energy I was looking for that I had not yet found in the surrounding nurseries.Sally was warm and welcome when we met and explained her passion for creating a space where children can learn through play. One of my favourite things about the space is that even though there are dedicated rooms with an abundance of new and handmade toys age suitable, the children are free to explore the space, inside and out and are allowed to mix with the other children of all ages which I was delighted with as I feel that is more natural as it would be at home and encourages respect and building relationships and understanding of all levels. The space is very clean but the children are allowed to get stuck in and not worry about mess as well as being encouraged to be independent and learn through an approach in line with Montessori and Reggio Emilia, which is what we were aiming to do at home. There are rabbits and a mud kitchen in a forest school style with a vegetable patch coming soon for the children to learn how to grow their own food, a sensory room and an adorable wooden reading teepee with a little library inside for the bookworms.During my daughters first week, we were thrown in the deep end as my work required me to go full time - this has been a dramatic shift for all of us and Sally has been amazing helping us all find our feet with the changes. Pictures are sent every day and its clear to us that although she struggled a little at first our daughter is becoming more confident every day and we are called if she does get overwhelmed and needs to come home. Our daughter has an egg and peanut allergy and all the staff have been amazing with that as well. She eats her breakfast lunch and dinner if she's there at the meal times and we are updated via a great online system that tells us exactly what she's eaten in the day.Overall, Sally, Alex and Tom are very friendly happy people who have a clear passion for the vision they have set out on, have been very welcoming to our daughter and created an amazing space to help her, and anyone elses children who get the opportunity to go there, grow and play.
