Had an evening meal on Sunday. Excellent service, lovely food that was well presented, good quality and value. Great views overlooking the day and barrier. Will definitely be going back again.

Exceptionally relaxing hotel, no extraneous noise and very comfortable. Lovely location on Scapa Flow with water views from every window - lovely people and great breakfast. The fresh kipper seems almost virtuous - as an alternative to the main grill.

The Sands Hotel is located in southern Orkney, about 10 minutes by car from St Margaret’s Hope where the Pentland ferries arrive. It’s a rather quiet area, your on,y dinner option in walking distance is the on-site restaurant (which offers very good pub food at a reasonable price). Our room on the 1st floor was simple but well-kept with a newly renovated en-suite bathroom. Breakfast was served in the restaurant and while rather basic (think packed cereals and mini containers of jam and marmalade), hot breakfast could be ordered the night before and was freshly cooked.Parking is available in a large parking lot behind the hotel free of charge. Overall a nice hotel which may be lacking the views one might expect on a small island.

Stayed for a meal, not rooms. A good variety of options. Guests can dine from the bar menu or a la carte menu. Large portions and friendly service.

Popped in for lunch, but it was 2.30 and finished serving lunch. Very kindly we were offered soup or toasties. We chose Cullen Skink, it was delicious, never tasted it before and loved it.

Stopped here for lunch and was told they only doing soup and sandwiches as full lunches were nearly finished but our server asked the chef if he would do us hot food and he obliged and we both had fish and chips and it was delicious. A big thank you to the staff for going above and beyond for 2 hungry travelers. 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ indeed

This is the best hotel I've stayed in to date. All staff we met were lovely and even the domestics engaged us in conversation and made recommendations for our trip and asked about our day (I've been in quite a few hotels previously where I was lucky if I even got a hello from them). Our room was very clean and quite spacious. The television worked (another rarity) and the food was excellent. The hotel makes good use of local produce and the information book in our room gave the location of where soaps and shampoos that are used in the hotel, which are made locally, can be purchased. This will be the place I look to first for a room if ever in Orkney again in future.
