Lovely guided tour around the mill, where they dry and grind bere (older 'version' of barley). All powered by water, well, apart from the drying, but that's fine by burning the husk residue from the last lot of grinding the bere.Bere's high in protein and low in gluten (mix 50:50 with normal flour)

A mill that has been producing flour with exactly the same equipment for 150 years! The tour, led by Ali, the miller, was very interesting and informative and Ali could not have been more helpful as I have slight mobility problems. Well worth a visit.

I ordered a few items as a birthday present for a family member who loves to cook. A bag of flour within the package burst open in transit although everything else in the box was fine once it had been dusted off! The book is lovely with some really nice looking recipes in it and great value at £5.I emailed Barony Mill looking for the burst bag to be refunded. They sent me a lovely email apologising and refunded the whole order. All together wonderful products and excellent service.

Sue gave us a great tour at the mill! She is so knowledgable about the milling process and the history of the mill.If you are interested to learn about the ingenuity of the victorian millers you must stop by.We learned all about Bere and even got the chance to try Bere scones and homemade cheese. Delicious!!

Brilliant hidden gem in the west mainland of Orkney. They tour is conducted by incredibly knowledgeable people and they’re more than happy to show you the machinery in operation where possible. In addition to this they also sell a few products made with the bere produced.

We were shown around by Alister, the miller. He is an expert of his craft, and a sincerely charming man. The mill is fascinating, and his commitment to running it is wonderful.Make sure to buy some of the Ginger Crunch biscuits from the mill shop. They're absolutely delicious.

This was an amazing experience, the Talk was very interesting and the millers very accommodating. Learned a lot about the history of the mill and how the flour is still made today but only in the winter years. Would definitely recommend this tour if you visit Orkney. The beremeal flour is very tasty. We have just bought the oatmeal flakes and beremeal flakes to make porridge. Mmmmm can’t wait to taste it. Thanks again to Kenny and Alistair for a wonderful tour. Best wishes Rae and Duncan.

A little hidden gem. A great short tour of the last working water mill on Orkney, run by its miller. Worth a stop.

This review is not over the mill or tour, as unfortunately we did not get to do it this trip. The shop has a selection of their items. The location and tour looks interesting and hope to do it sometime in the future. The shop is worth a stop.
