The room for the price was very good, clean and pleasant. The staff were very friendly and helpful. But if your expecting a great northern breakfast think again. Its a continental style affair , but with half of it missing, no cheese, rolls or much butter. Besides that it was good for the price

I really hate to leave a bad review, but I feel this needs to be said for anyone looking to spend money to stay here. Where do I begin.. I booked just over a month in advance of my stay. I received an email a few days before my stay asking me to confirm whether or not I was still staying, which I confirmed. As far as I knew, everything was fine and I was all set. However, it wasn’t until I checked their Facebook page the day of my stay to try and find their up to date food menu that I found that they had posted (over 10 days prior to my stay) saying that due to staff shortages they would be closed a number of days during the duration of a fortnight, including the day I was booked to stay. Instant panic set in. I had an exam early in the morning and the only way I was going to be able to make my exam in time is if I stayed there (there’s no other hotel in Ferryhill.) I tried calling the numbers provided, couldn’t get through. At this point I’m past myself and tried messaging their Facebook page. Luckily I managed to get a reply and they confirmed that I was still booked in to stay but asked what time I was due to check in (despite me stating on the booking form that I was checking in at 2 that afternoon.) I was then told that no one was available to check me in at that time. I stupidly told them I didn’t mind waiting, thinking I’d be waiting an hour/hour and a half max, only to be told no one was available until around 5. I’d already pre-booked all of my taxi’s and train to get in at the time I stated I was checking in, and having not been contacted by anyone to tell me that a 2pm check in was not possible, I wasn’t able to rearrange travel accordingly. I ended up having to wait in a nearby pub by myself with all of my luggage not knowing exactly when someone would be able to check me in. At this point I’m beyond stressed about the whole situation and the fact that I needed to do some last minute studying before my exam. (It was a Japanese exam, so it’s not like I could afford not to get some last minute study in.) Finally I get a message from them with a picture of the guest entrance telling me that the room key is under a plank of wood next to the entrance and they’ve put a key to the entrance on for me so I can come and go as I please. No one was there to greet me, there wasn’t any staff there, it was completely empty and I was the only person there (I think someone else checked in at some point.) I finally managed to get to my room but it wasn’t the room I booked. The bed was made well and there were clean towels on the bed which was a relief, but the room felt a bit grubby which was off-putting. The window wouldn’t stay open and was propped up with a plank of wood with “unlucky mush” written on it. The window was quite heavy and took a bit of effort to try and hold it open enough to take the wood out to close the window during the night. Because I wasn’t told otherwise, I assumed that breakfast would be included in my stay and that I would be able to pay for lunch and dinner during my stay, but this wasn’t possible because not one single member of staff was there. Wi-Fi wasn’t included in the room as stated on the website. The place was essentially closed. As a young woman travelling on my own, it was incredibly unsettling to have no one on site if anything went wrong or if I needed help and having to rely on messaging their Facebook page to get in touch with them. I didn’t encounter a single member of staff during my one night stay. However, the person I spoke to over Facebook was polite and thanked me for baring with them. I was really looking forward to my stay, especially after seeing the pictures on their website. It seemed like a wonderful hidden gem, but unfortunately it was everything but. The whole place needs a lot of work doing to it. All-in-all I don’t feel the stay was anywhere near worth the £56 I paid. I was on the verge of complaining and threatening to only pay half but I couldn’t risk being told I couldn’t stay. I just want people to be aware. It’s not great.

Had a great few days at the Manor House Hotel. Plenty of room to park our mobile home in the car park with access to a toilet and water available. We stayed in the hotel a night in room 3.. it was spotless and nice and warm. Owners Nic and Bri couldn't not do enough for us to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Lovely atmosphere in the bar. Walking distance to shops and take aways.. 20 mins away from Durham. We will return. It was less than £4 a pint too... lovely little find.

Visited on Valentines Day 2020, attracted by their Valentines Day special menu in the restaurant and decided to extend our stay overnight. Bearing in mind this is a budget price hotel, we were pleasantly surprised. The meal was excellent - very tasty, well presented and great value for money. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We found our room (Room 1) was alright. It was clean and the bed comfortable, giving a good night's sleep. The room overlooks the garden, so a pleasant outlook. Only issue was the toilet seat that was ill-fitting and loose! The cooked full English breakfast was again tasty. Followed by a walk round Ferryhill, which is an attractive town although has clearly seen better days.We understand the hotel featured on TV's Most Haunted. We found there were some spooky sounds (creaks and knocking) following midnight, and also an unexplained light near the ceiling, all of which was silent when I woke at around 5 am. Not too scary though.

Went for a meal with my mam and my two daughters. Staff were really kind and patient. My 4 year old kept messing about running around but the staff remained calm. Lovely and peaceful defo would go again. And food was the best I've tasted in ages. My 4 year old was being cheeky and asked for more spaghetti hoops and the lady asked the chief for more hoops for her. She was over the moon plus ice cream with child's meals. Good value for money. Defo look after there customers very well.
